Nationwide and windshield coverage
I have Nationwide with a $500 deductible for comprehensive coverage which covers windshields and I just filed a claim but need some clarification. Hopefully someone here has Nationwide and done a windshield claim in the past who could help me figure this out.
I called my BMW dealer and they quoted me $1,200 for the replacement which includes labor, OEM windshield, rain sensors, two set of weather stripping and the glue. Nationwide rep who called me after I filed my online claim, stated that Nationwide covers a max of $750 for the replacement and I would need approval from them if I want to go with an OEM windshield and not an aftermarket windshield. My question is... Is the $750 max that NW covers INCLUDE my $500 deductible? In other words, will it be $750 from NW plus my $500 deductible, which would equal $1,250 thus covering the quote from BMW? Or is it a MAX of $750 and I have to pay the $500 PLUS the difference which is $450? Thanks for any help and clarification... |

your deductible has nothing to do with the the amount that goes towards the glass. if that is the case, you will be responsible for the additional cost of the OEM glass.
just so you know, you may be able to get OEM glass from a third party installer. |

For future reference:
I have NW on all my cars. On my BMW, I chose the 'Replace with ONLY OEM BMW parts' option. This ensures that no matter what parts are needed for your car - they will be replaced by only oem parts - no aftermarket. The added cost for this option was like $15 every 6 months. Also, with NW - you can choose an entirely different deductible for glass breakage than any of your other deductibles. Choices are $0/$25/$50/$100, etc. I chose the $25 ded option for my glass (have $250 ded on all others). I had my ws replaced under insurance (vandalism) - NW rep looked at the car & the estimate I had from local dealer - covered entire claim with no questions asked (minus the $25 of course). I don't recall the exact cost, but I can tell you it wasn't any $1250 Windshield - $383.13 Reveal Mldg - $33.72 Rain Sensor - $189.60 Install Kit - $25 3.5hr labor around $1016 Total

I went ahead and will have the window replaced by Safelite tomorrow morning and pay the $500 deductible and NW will pay the rest ($256). BTW, I already quoted how much my policy will increase by if I reduce the comprehensive deductible from $500 to $0 and it will only increase $47 for 6 months!!!! I think it's a bargain, considering any future window/body damage will cost me $0 to have it repaired. |

It must go by state because i'm on my 3rd windshield in my FJ cruiser and have never paid a dime out of pocket for a replacement. I also have Nationwide ins.

You realize this is $276 a year more? Unless you plan on filing a claim every year you are better off with a higher deductable... In two years you will have paid $552 which is more than your current $500 ded. Check the cost with a $100 or $250 ded and calculate the payback. I think we have had claims about every 3 to 5 years.

I thought I remembered replacing the windshield on an e9x was somewhere around a grand... ridiculous
I just recently used Safelite (not on a bimmer and not for full windshield replacement - just repairing a huge chip/crack from a marble-sized rock on the freeway). $50 bucks, done in 45 minutes. No complaints about the repair itself. YMMV.
