dealer installed ipod and iphone . . .

CollinP-

You rock, brother! Thanks for the info. I got an iPhone, but haven't activated it yet. Really don't have a reason why, but that's another topic all together.

I was curious if the iPhone would work in the dealer installed iPod solution, as I am one of the people who bought their e90 before 6FL was announced.

My questions are:

1) does the iPhone charge in the glove box when connected to the dealer installed connection?

2) What happens when you receive a call while using the iPhone as an iPod through the dealer connection?

Just curious and I appreciate the info you posted. This thread has been difficult to follow as their hasn't been much iPhone/6FL/dealer iPod compatibility talk as there has been iPhone celebrating/bashing.

When I attempt to activate the iphone with my idrive it asks for a pin number.
Is there a set number I use or can I just make one up?

you just make one up and then you have to put the same code you made up into the other device.

after a few tries I got it to pair. Now I'm syncing my numbers which seems to be taking a little while.

my iPhone does not charge from the central console just FYI. And I actually prefer it that way for now... no need to overcharge this baby

I actually just purchased an iPhone myself and am disappointed that it does not charge from the center console.

There is no way to charge the iPhone & sync with the car at this point.

have the iphone hooked up to my car. handsfree works, contact list syncs up, but the phone singnal strength indicator on the car's screen doesn't work

i've heard it works fine on idrive, however i don't have idrive. anyone else on a non-idrive e90 have theirs working? everything else seems to work fine, just no signal strength icon. not a big deal

iphone

I paired mine to a 335xi and it works great. Phone calls play through the speakers just fine.

This is disappointing. I can see where some may not want to overcharge the battery on short trips all day, but when leaving town for a few days with the car it would be a nice way to keep the batttery topped off.

Mine pairs and works fine with a June 2006 E90 non-Idrive.

Only problem is that on some of my numbers, when I dial them from the console instead of the iPhone, the car tries to call the wrong number. I haven't figured it out, nor been able to find an answer with google yet.

Most of the numbers work, but maybe 10 of my 200 contacts have problems.

I'm sure this will be fixed in the future, especially since it's an important feature

I love the iPhone and its integration with my E93 w/ iDrive! Amazing. One of the coolest things I love showing off to friends and family. While I agree it is disappointing the 6FL does not charge your iPhone (or iPod) it is a minor issue. The big things for me was seamless integration with my Address Book and playing music both of which work perfect!!!

6FL appears to charge the iPod, so why wouldn't it charge the iPhone? I got my iPhone last night, and it has worked flawlessly through 6FL and Bluetooth. I thought the lack of 3G would be an issue, but there's WiFi almost everywhere I'd need it, and it's faster than 3G anyway, and you won't lose the browser when you make a call. If the battery doesn't charge through 6FL that would be a problem, since I'd be using the iPod function pretty much all the time I'm in the car.

My phone has a clicking issue when I connect and during calls it sounds like the signal drops and comes back for a second it's weird the call quality is average tho other then that I love how the iPhone functions with iDrive.

I would try this:

Take the USB cable from the iPhone box and plug it into the BMW.

If it charges, then you can get a standard headphone male to male jack and plug it in.

I'll try this for you tonight.

iPhones headphone hole is deeper than any other regular ipod, so standard headphone cable might not work.

I just confirmed that this works... Just plug in a regular iPod cable - charges perfectly.

And drfluid is right, you will need an adapter to access the iPhone's "deeper" plug.
