yep to all bring your ear plugs, but if you bought tickets thru WWE F1 they supply you with lanyards and ear plugs nice considering tickets are min $350 or more...I'll be watching from home since I already spent $$$ going to the Monza race this year

Tickets were through TicketMaster and so no lanyards for tix or plugs. This should be a great circuit and event, much better than Texas's previous F1 in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl ('84) but everyone should be prepared to bring a Texas sized dose of patience. Ingress and egress to COTA will likely be nightmarish. In any case I plan on having a great time!

BTW, if you were assigned the downtown shuttle as part of you ticket package my suggestion is to park somewhere else and take a bus downtown. Parking in that part of downtown is rather limited (parking garages and open lots) and they will fill up fast and likely require a long hike.

I was thinking like a last race, where as the number of wins can dictate the championship.

You are absolutely correct, even VET tied with ALO. We will have to wait till Brazil. First two for VET will make sure his three consecutive championship.

Extra tyres for drivers on Friday at COTA

Quote:
F1 drivers will get an extra set of hard tyres to use during Friday practice at the Circuit of the Americas to give them an extra opportunity to learn the new circuit.

“In many ways America will be the biggest challenge for us of the year,” said motorsport director Paul Hembery. “But stepping into the unknown is a situation that we are used to: last season the majority of tracks were completely new to us.

“We’ve chosen the hard and the medium compounds as we think it will be quite a demanding track, based on the asphalt samples and simulation data we have gathered.

“Naturally we’ve leaned towards a slightly more conservative choice in order to cover every possibility at a brand new circuit, but the tyre choice in Abu Dhabi was also conservative and yet we saw one of the most exciting races of the year.

“We’re all absolutely delighted to be returning to America with Formula One: it’s a crucial market for us as well as being the home of many of the most enthusiastic fans out there. We’ve felt a huge buzz about this race, and with the championship so finely poised it couldn’t come at a better time.”

Mark Webber said: “The track looks pretty quick: it’s got some very fast changes of directions, left-rights and fifth/sixth gear stuff, which is not hanging around for us.

“It looks like they’ve done a really good job and there are lots of undulations, which is important. With a new track there are always things we don’t really know until we get there, such as the subtleties of the cambers of the corners, which we will find out about on Friday.”

Flew right next to the track last month during a layover in Austin. The track is literally minutes from the airport. It looks absolutely amazing.

All of you that are going are in for something special. I can't wait to watch it this weekend.

Go Sauber!

Looks like racers or at least "important" people are starting to arrive. I just left the W hotel garage and someone was being dropped off inside the garage with a good amount of security escorting him up. I couldn't tell who he was, but they obviously didn't want him to walk in through the front door.

There are also a lot more exotic cars driving around downtown than usual.

So pumped for the race!

Doing a pit walk on Thursday, I'll see if I can snap some decent photos.

I'll be watching from the top of Turn 1...it'll be amazing if all of the cars get through the first turn in one piece!

So if I want to spend my Sunday watching everything is there a broadcast on DirectTV for this or some broadcast that I can watch.

A friend of mine was one of the original supporters and money guys for the race. Too bad all his tickets were unavailable.

Thanks.

P.S. -- I am in the Puget Sound.

I can't wait for this weekend! I've never been to an F1 event (or any race for that matter) or to Austin, so any additional insight is greatly appreciated. Someone mentioned bussing to the downtown shuttle to avoid the downtown parking situation. Any other advice like that or things to after the race? I'm guessing the fan fest will be crazy busy. Have fun everyone! Go Vettel, Perez and Lotus!

There's always the Austin music scene including the Sixth Street and Warehouse Entertainment Districts downtown. Some clubs and music on SoCo (South Congress) too. It will likely be super crowded downtown but probably a very hip place to be too.
