CIC Retrofit in '08 E92 Journal

Just purchased this, "http://www.ebay.com/itm/130668601032...#ht_760wt_1293".

The Car: 2008 335i E92 with CCC, Bluetooth, Voice Control

The Plan: CIC, Nav, Voice, Video-in-Motion, BMW Apps/Combox.

I will try and keep this thread updated so anyone else attempting this will have an example to follow with prices to expect. Also to receive any help for problems I may run into.

I am hoping to do all the coding myself. I have coded various features into my car already, but will most likely need to update my software to get it to work with the CIC.

Also the unit I bought already has an aftermarket activation ($200-$500) and is a US unit with HD radio (normally $600 more than Euro spec w/o HD radio.)

Now the Questions:
1) The seller said he has been using this, so this should mean I shouldn't need to buy a map disc right?

2)To get it fully setup with BMW apps all I should need to buy would be the combox, correct?

Thanks for the help and let me know if you have any tips.

2. - depending on the CIC sw version, you might also need a FSC 6NR activation code

Hmm.. So I may not want it updated to the newest version because the older version doesn't require a FSC code for 6NR?

Correct. SW versions above v42 (if not mistaking) require FSC activation codes for bmw apps.

And the CIC is up and running! This was a big help, "http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=477061&highlight=cic+retrofit".

I'll finish put all the little pieces in tomorrow, as well as the coding.

Also what is suppose to plug into the orange connector (pic below.)

Voice commands working!

What is suppose to go in this orange connector?

Dang nice and quick work! I still need to get mine coded so I can get my damn sound back, get those warnings out, and get my rear view camera working...it's been like that for near 4 months now hahah. Been busy being in and out of the state.

Yea I had both sound and 0 warnings without coding, but this was also retrofitted into Booster's E90 before I bought it. I also didn't start the car (only ignition on) so that may change when I start it tomorrow.

The orange port is for an "ethernet" expansion port which is not currently used.

Glad you got it going!!

Got it all up and running. Changed the VO, added #0910 (I will be adding Combox next), and $6VA. Oddly enough $609 was already in my VO. Also does anyone know if I would need to add something for the HD radio that comes with this CIC since I didn't have it before or should I be good to go with the above coding?

I also did some other minor coding, ie legal disclaimer. Next step center console trim for new controller and combox retrofit.

Wish you were here to code mine for me haha. I can't even get my INPA to communicate correctly even though I followed the setup steps and am using a 32 bit windows xp

What happens is you don't update the VO? Mine is working the same as before I updated the VO for the CIC.

Also any idea why I am getting this TPMS error? I tried resetting the TPMS system multiple times to no avail.

I do, I have a JB3 installed. I didn't even think about that. Do I need to uninstall / disable it first?

You need to set it to map 0 (stock). The tuner hijacks the CANBUS system so that you can't talk over it with INPA/NCSExpert, or something along those lines.

I had a the same problem for a while when I first started coding, and most threads leave that out.

Hmm.. I never had that problem with my JB3. Programming was perfect (mostly) and set on Map 3 or 4 I think.

TPMS is $2VB. However, my CIC was set to use the old style TPMS system (2007 - without the sensors in the wheels) -- I cannot remember how it was coded to deal with that. You want to remove that code (whatever it is) and make sure $2VB is in there..

Hmm I assumed JB3 hijacked the system like JB4 dues, but JB3 is a much simpler tune so maybe it does not...

I'll look in the module and see what I can find as well as check the VO.

Thanks!

Updating my Iphone now so I can hopefully get SMS and emails to show up, unless I need Combox for that.

I believe the iphone sms and email cannot be read on the CIC regardless of combox install.

What? Even with BMW apps?

Update:
Fixed the TPMS system error. I had to read the CIC module in expert mode and then code it without changing anything.
