Insurance quote 5K a year anyone know any cheap insurance companies?
Hey guys I'm new to this site I'm 18 years old and just recently was lucky enough to get a 2008 BMW 335xi coupé. Last December I had totalled my 350z and parents refused to purchase me another car until now. For my last car i drove the Z year round my insurance was 2200ish a month and I haven't been insured since I totalled my Z. So yesterday I go to get an insurance quote as the secondary driver on the policy however it's going to cost me 5K per year!! I was wondering if anyone knew any ways I could lower my insurance cost because I'm a full time student in university right now and ~400 a month out of my pocket for just insurance feels pretty unaffordable at the moment. Any advice would help guys, appreciated bigtime!

Why would your parents buy you a BMW, but expect you to pay for insurance? My advice is either get your parents to pay your insurance, or tell them to buy you a Honda instead...

Congrats on the new car...I still miss my 350z, such a fun car to drive.
Have you tried www.kanetix.com to search for the best insurance deals? Give it a shot. |

do you mean you paid 2200 a year? 2200 a month is INSANE! thats more than the monthly lease payment for a V10 R8 (not actually sure but im pretty sure its about that much).
if your parents can buy you that car after you've already totalled a 350z. i suspect they're trying to teach you a lesson here |

Considering I went to Forest Hill Collegiate, OP's thread does not sound too ridiculous to me. I met quite a few people/kids that had wealthy families giving them toys. I was always so jealous, I used to brag about my own ride at the time....TTC lol

How can that be $2200 per month. That's insane. it should be a typo. should be per year.
Now, he qot quoted for $5000 a year. That sounds like he has been classified as high risk driver. I knew someone paid over $10,000 a year for insurance (extreme high risk driver with multiple tickets conviction, insurance claims, etc.) and his parents shelled out his premium. btw, he drove a GTI. |

Lol man you're 18 with a 335i coupe...what did you expect?
In any case ill try and be helpful while I shake my head at this nonsense of you being that age and parents buying you a luxury car lol. If you were held at fault for that "total loss" and given your age it's likely that you are now classified high risk. If you are under your parents policy as an "occasional driver" this is the best way to save $$. They however might be insured with a co. that charges high rates anyways. Many insurers such as intact, unifund, the personal all have group/student rates, but your be primary and likely pay as much if not more. Lastly, keep in mind in the past 2yrs insurers have been approved for 8%-20% rate increases on auto lines. Try the above insurers and discuss with your broker where you are being "dinged". Could be the accident, tickets, likely age and the insurer. Cheers, N |

Lol i had 350z when i was 19 and totaled it and next i just grabbed Acura TSX but what i did was i kept my same insurance until i get the Acura so im in safe connection with the insurance what i had on Z. However Mine went up to $380 a month cuz i guess its brand new Car and insurance put it as luxury car with Acura. I almost paid same for three years due to had two small accident and got last year CPO 08 335i and its almost same now.
