Impressions from..

Hey guys, I wanted to see if anyone else is going through the same experience as me as far as my suspension goes. I did some searching but would like a more clear cut answer.

I have a 08 335xi coupe with hr sports for about a year now. On smooth roads it handles and rides great. Once I hit a slight bump it feels like I bottom out or my rims cracked. I ordered bilstein sport shocks and I'm hoping this helps. I want to know if anyone got tired of my original set up also and got the bilstein sports and see what they thought as far as the quality of the ride. I looked into bump stops but I think the bilsteins come with them. Also I believe from what I researched the shocks will help with the bumpiness of the ride but again I'm more concerned about the rim cracking feeling! Thanks in advance! This forum is great :-)

Sounds pretty severe. What size rims and tire are you running?

H&R sports are stiff, there is no way around that. I have that Bilstein sport and H&R sport combo, and while not as severe as you mentioned, it is still stiff (in my opinion manageable - but I think that is not the general consensus around here). The dampers, once you replace them, will help as you will have decent compression travel. If still unhappy, try (if applicable):
- replacing the runflats
- going with a smaller size wheel, allowing for a higher tire sidewall.
- going with a softer spring - Eibach ProKit seems to be the more comfortable alternative.

And that is correct - with Bilsteins, the bumpstops are inside the damper.

thanks for all the replies! seriously this has got to be the best forum. I figure I should give some more info about my set up. I'm running 19 inch m3 reps with hankook all season non rfts. I think the front is 235 n rear is 275 in width or something around there. I did have to roll my rear fenders to prevent rubbing.

[intlink]664385;Quick xi Suspension Review - Bilstein + Eibach[/intlink]
hey thanks for posting that. its a great review but I'm looking for an review on just the shocks alone. as if going from hr sport and stock struts to hr sport with bilstein struts. I have also heard his eibachs are a little less stiff than the hr sports I am currently riding on.

I had the H&Rs with the bilsteins and I loved the tight handling on smooth roads but damn it was so crappy on every other type of road. Small bumps and cracks felt like sinkholes and the hard bottom out bang was an embarrassment on a BMW. I was on 18 non runflats too. It felt like a 1987 IrocZ. I got rid of the H&Rs and picked up the Eibachs and wow what a difference. No comparrison as far as ride quality goes. Another added bonus is the front rake is also gone.

Wow so the difference between eibach n hr sports is pretty big? I didn't think it would make such a big difference between those two since the drop difference isn't that big

FWIW, the ride will be much less harsh if you ditch the runflats. That made a HUGE difference even on the stock suspension.

I had non runfllats with the H&Rs and it was still way too harsh for my taste. I am 1000 percent more satisfied with the Bilstein/Eibach combo. As always this is just my opinion.
