BMW iPhone 5 connector??

So I just got the iPhone 5, and as most know, the connector type is different now. I'm aware of the 30-pin converter that Apple makes, but does anyone know if BMW is making a new auxiliary connector type for the iPhone 5??

Though this article seems to speak more about MINI it looks like it applies to BMW as well.

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2012/09/15/iphone-5-and-what-it-means-for-bmw/

Quick answer: later this year or early next year.

Just tried my new 5 with the factory apple cable, works like a charm on my BMW. The audio, could be imagining things, sounds even better. Seems my worries were unfounded.

Cheers!

Which car - assuming it is the 11 with combox integration as the apple cable does not work on cars with the Y cable for ipod integration (6FL), I have tried in my 2008 and my 2011 (which was built about a month before the combox was available).

Your right its a 2011 (Nov10 build) with combox integration. Unfortunately I don't have an older build to test. Best of luck gents!

I wonder if the updated cable will work with older versions of i-drive? All I really care about is the iPod out function.

I finally received my adaptor today, and can confirm that on a 2008 E92, with ccc professional navigation, the iphone 5 functions perfectly well with the bmw y-cable from the older iphones.

Nice man, thanks for the update. I was concerned about the audio out ability (using CCC unit), as that's all I would use it for anyways. But according to you it seems like everything is on par as it was before with the predecessors!

Seriously, it takes apple less time to design and built the entire phone than for BMW to get one, take a mold of it and make some plastic bits - why even do they bother!

Instead of waiting for new cradle you can install additional USB socket and connect your Iphone over OEM BMW cable and use it in the same way as your phone was in snap-in adapter. Simpler, universal and much cheaper solution.

^^Are you using an iPhone 5? The issue here is that the iPhone 5's lightning connector does not provide analog audio or video outputs. That cable you show appears to be a BMW unique cable that splits out the analog audio and video pins from the 30-pin connector and puts them into a headphone jack style AV cable. We would still need a cable or a converter that would take the lightning connector and output analog audio and video. There is a 30-pin to lightning adapter available but it only provides analog audio, no video.

Adapter Works!

So here's an update of the adapter I bought from the Apple store about a week ago. I got the prolonged adapter, not the small more sought after converter.

Anyways, works like a charm, just like the OEM Y-adapter works for the 30-pin iPhones - Got access to my playlist, etc. from the iDrive menu. AND best of yet (and a big kicker for me that worked with the 30 pin previously), the audio out plays the applications; youtube, soundcloud, etc. (audio only).

Audio sounds good! Same as before, and iPhone charges (even though charging is so slow).

Edited: I am using the Logic 7 Audio System, with the CCC Navigation iDrive system.

Awesome! Thanks, this is the update I was waiting for. I will pick up the adapter soon.

So, it's June. Any word on a dedicated Y-cable for iPhone5 or is the Apple adapter the only option?

Why spend more than the $40 or so bucks on the Apple one?
