Ultimate Racing Exhaust installed E90: Review with vids and pics!

Hey all,

I got my UR Exhaust installed on Friday, I love it! The exhaust comes in 3 pieces (unlike the stocker..more on that later), took it over to my mechanic and he commented on how this is the nicest quality exhaust he has ever seen. Fitment is excellent and it looks great, fills out the rear cutouts perfectly.

As for the stock exhaust..it is 1 piece, 12 feet long!! I took it home at 1am with 2 feet of it sticking out the back of my Honda Fit..it's heavy too.

If I had 1 word to describe the tone it is "SMOOTH!!" It has a nice soft pur at idle, a nice deep pur when accelerating and screams when you really step on it..though never sounding "ricey".

Upon startup you have a quick burble then it is deep and smooth.

Highway cruising is perfect, with the windows down you hear it, but it is not intrusive or annoying, just the nice deep pur i like. Windows up around 70 you don't hear much at all, though you do know it's back there. No drone, though cruising around town at 2k rpms is at its loudest.

The wife likes it..that says a lot. Mom and my sis both took it for a spin and thought it sounded great..so it does pass the wife test.

Darryl at Ultimate Racing was a pleasure to deal with, very responsive to my 100 questions and delivered on time, thanks again for the excellent work!

Here are some vids, if you have any requests please let me know. Also I am in Chatham NJ so if you want to meet up to check it out let me know. Enjoy!

great review!

When UR said their videos didn't do justice..they really didn't. That sounded really nice.

IN the morning..when it is cold..it is really loud...I wake up the neighbors..when I leave for work at 6am...I still am happy with my purchase..but my tips are not fitting as well as I think they should. I have bought numerous aftermarket exhaust in the past 10 years..this one still hasnt found the proper fit yet.

Nice!
Can you tell me if your rear mufflers were Magnaflow? They are now using Magnaflow mufflers for the rear sections and I want to know if your sound is the Magnaflow sound or the original sound. You would know because Magnaflow will be imprinted in the muffler.
Thanks!

What do you mean by the tips not fitting well?
Is this over time with the hangers or is it just trying to fit the tips in the groove to begin with?

Yes the rear mufflers are Magnaflow, they look real nice. I do love the burble/pop when you let off the throttle.

As you may know..the tips angle out towards the rear corners of the car...well, no matter what I cannot make one side not hit the lower valence in the back. I have had it adjusted twice. Still playing with it. I dont like burning the bumper. To be fair to Ultimate Racing..I think my mechanic had gotten the car and exhaust real hot..and then immediately jacked up the car by the rear diff..that made the exhaust go up into the bumper the first time. However, I can get one side to fit fine..the right..I just cant get the left side to do the same. I just havent had time to mess with this lately.

The exhaust sounds great !

Thanks for taking the time out to video record it, write it up, and post it! A nice contribution to the forum.

I was in the market for an exhaust, and this was one of the ones I was considering... I was just waiting to hear the Eisenmann's Meisterschaft sound clips before finally deciding.

Have you seen that thread about most of the e92 (?) exhausts being not even? I think the right side hangs more.

Perhaps this is related to your problem / solution...

No..didnt see that..I think mine hangs evenly....I am going to try to get it to hang a bit lower on both sides..then the possibility of it hitting the valance is less.

I'm sure this could be fixed. What's good about this system is the couplings that are used for the installation. I'm sure that it could be tweaked a certain way to fix the problem.
I'll be honest with you though. I don't like the 4" tips. I think they are way too big, and I'm sure the big tips aren't helping with the rubbing.
I'm going to put on the 3.5" rolled tips (exactly like the pic below) in the place of the 4" when I install mine. I'll be sure to include pics of the final product.

You can check them out on Magnaflow's website.
My exhaust guy can get Magnaflow parts for a pretty good price and he's going to swap them when installing the system.

Check out the tip styles here:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=267

I went with the straight only because I want the 3.5". I personally think that 3.5" is the perfect size for our cars.
