Hey guys,

Two weeks ago my car died at a stop light. I drive my car regularly and this has never happened before. The iDrive said 1. Malfunction in transmission 2. AWD DSC malfunction 3. start assistance inactive 4. yellow brake light. My gas meter says low gas 12 miles til empty. Anyways I got my car towed because I was headed out of town for work. A week later (with same error lights) assuming its a battery issue, I jump the battery. The car would turn on but the engine would not turn ove (when jumped). The battery was not holding a charge.

This morning I headed over to Autozone and purchased an aftermarket Duralast battery. I installed the battery without issue. To verify the installation was successful, I started the car. The car started (same error lights). I turned off the car to go grab my jacket and when I returned the again is turning on but now the engine is not turning over. Pushing the button sounds promising but ends with just puttering.

I have no clue what to do. I don't have a scanner and the car is out of warranty.

Any help is appreciated.

you can't just swap in a battery. You need to have the dealer code it. Or if you have the BT Tool, you need to register the new battery

I don't think the battery is compatible with our car... better return that and get a OEM battery replacement... it is somewhere around $250 to $300 installed and coded... do some research...

The $100 autozone batteries do indeed work on our cars. Just need to register it via BT Tool

Is the BT tool straight forward? I'm not a mechanic or anything.

One more question - will registering the battery clear the error codes?

The bt tool is very easy to use. You'll have to register the battery and then clear codes using the tool. I'm not sure if it'll automatically clear. If you're not going to use the tool much, just fund an Indy shop to do it for you since the tool is $200-300

Not sure registering the battery is the root of your problems. As far as I'm aware, registering the battery takes care of how the car recharges it. I'm no mechanic and no expert on this but it sounds like you have other issues with the car that a simple battery registration might not address.
