Wallpaper removal

Right folks, the impending bank holiday weekend means that my promise to paint my 3 year old's bedroom pink!

Need to remove the animal border that has been there since our eldest was born and have tried the couple of things most suggested...hairdryer and warm water. Not budging as yet.

Any other tips? Should I just go and hire a steamer machine thingy?

I'm glad it is just a border around the room at this rate!!

you're going to need a plasterer, and then a decorator. unless you want a bodge job

You don't need any special tools or strippers and certainly not a plasterer. I have done this twice and it came off really easily using a wallpaper stripper liquid product, need to check its name at home but got it in B&Q, simply mix it with water and rub over the border, leave a few minutes and it peels off brilliantly. I couldn't believe how well the border came off as I was really worried I would need to replaster etc. Simply rubbed this stuff on and then with a flat blade it came off a treat. Did my daughter;s room last year, also to paint it pink and son's room a few weeks ago.

I had to redecorate my whole house before moving in, various types of wallpaper - including some covered in paint..

steamer - black and decker - was a life saver, hold it on for 30 secs then scrape off, if it doesnt work you can score the paper slightly which will allow the steam to get into the holes and get into the paste...

The most important part after this is to get some decent sugar soap (but wear gloves) and wash the area down as steaming leaves the old glue quite gloopy, best to clean it off and start with fresh wall....

Yes as above, a good wash down is essential to clear old glue or paste.
