Service records deleted?

I went to the service dept to get a service record history of my car and was told that only history for the past 2 years is available, the rest is purged by BMW NA. The SA had no issue printing out everything he could and was trying to be helpful but had no way to go further back.

Somehow this doesn't seem right, shouldn't there be a way to get the full service history for a 4-year old car?

Thats bull. I had my CA email me the complete service history of my last BMW before I sold it. 5 years worth of service info and this was just recently in July. He is a personal friend of mine, so I dont know if that had anything to do with it.

Just call the BMW toll free number. In Canada they just need the VIN and can tell you lots. I was not expecting that from the dealer, but when I did get to the dealer I requested a full service history and they gave me it without issue.

Tell them you are a potential new BMW customer and this guy is selling you the car and you want to know before you buy it that it's not stolen, etc. That's what I did... worked great... but again, Canadian BMW is a whole different company.
