Help please: VPC to a dealership...How long does it take?

Normally, how long does it take from NY/NJ VPC to a dealership in Westchester?
Ship arrived in NY/NJ port on Feb. 19th but not yet delivered to a delership in Westchester as of Feb. 26th.....something happened to my car?

Garage List
It can take up to a week. Who knows, maybe there's a port strike going on or something. Hang in there, you'll get your car real soon (I know, easier said than done).

My car is apparently still sitting at the port and my ship (otello) arrived in NY on February 6th. I suspect something is up but dealer is not being upfront with me. My dealer is located in Long Island so i can't imagine why it would take this long.

Sorry to hear that. Haven't your CA given you any explanation?
The car I purchased last year was deliverd from the NJ/NY prot to the dealership in Westchester within 3 days.

A lot of dealers have switched to Finance Hold. Finance Hold means the dealer has to pay for the car before it leaves the port. We can take the current car industry for this. This process may take slightly longer then usual. This could be the problem.

So i went to the dealer to see what was up with the delay. Apparently, BMW NA is having some legal problems at the port which are affecting some cars coming in. Either way, the dealer can't disclose it to the customer and neither can BMW NA b/c its a confidential legal issue.

The dealer has no control over the release of the cars at the VPC.It's possible that the port is backed up or that the car could have some minor damage on the bumpers from shipping ( but we usually know about this since it's usually noted on our DAR ( dealer activity report ).We don't have a way to track the car once it hits the port, until it's released to the carrier headed to the dealership. When it sits at the NJ port longer than two weeks,we contact the port to find out why it's still there.

Is the dealer required to disclose any damage to the customer if it's a custom order? It has been just about 4 weeks at the port for me. Have you heard about any of the legal problems BMW is having at the port?

If the damage is less than 1K, they don't need to disclose it,but most do since it's been repaired....I haven't heard of any legal problems at the port, but we have to check on a car today so I'll see what we can find out......

I finally got a call from BMW NA explaining the situation. I had ordered the car from BMW of oyster bay in Long Island, NY. Between the time I ordered and delivery, apparently the dealership filed for bankruptcy and is now going out of business. So, BMW would not release the car to them when it arrived at the port and a legal battle ensued which explains the 4 week wait at the port. So finally, BMW has decided to give the car to another dealership here on Long Island for delivery and I will finally be picking it up sometime this week or next week.
