Hi all c-hing

I am a first car-owner I thought I should introduce myself here. I bought a E90 320i (2005 facelifted) from Automall last month. At first I wanted to get an Audi A4 but got an E90 instead. I don't know much about BMWs at all until now and after driving for a week, I am in love with it. Hope to learn more about this car from all brothers in this forum. Is it too late to join the meet?

Btw when I collected the car, I only got 1 key. Asked the dealer for extra key but they said the seller did not provide them! Already bad experience from my first purchase

wtf, tell them to chase the seller! its impossible to get only 1 key, if not, ask him to pay for a replacement, its not acceptable at all.

Already requested them but they said seller didn't provide extra key. So now I am driving my car with the possibility that someone will be able to unlock my car. Not sure what to do now.

I guess you got it brand new from the dealer. I bought a 2nd hand. Should the dealer provide 3 keys ? If you put your car up for sale to a dealer, shouldn't you provide all the keys to the buyer? Not sure what the formalities are.

Yes,I got my car brand new from BMWHK.

Dealers' take-in price must be low and the selling price must be higher than private sale. If I were selling a car to dealer, I obviously not provide him everything in mint condition unless the take-in price was attractive.

You should have came to this forum before paying for the car. Now I afraid it is too late....anyway,justs enjoy your new ride.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience already.

If you had told them you would only buy the car with the full set of keys they would've surely ordered you one free of charge. But now you have paid for it they won't care.

You better order a spare, I'd be less worried about someone else being able to open your car, over the chance of you losing the only key to your wheels!!

But i don't think it's cheap... The replacement key is about $3500 I think. If you're worried about someone else with a key that can open your car then go to BMW and get your key and ignition recoded.

2005 is the first year of E90. 2nd half of 2008 (MY2009) is the first year of facelifted E90. So yours is prefacelift/pre-LCI.

Just a reminder, please keep your key on your hand when you get out of your car. I got a bad experience that my key was locked inside even the engine was on during the alcohol test. The police charged me HKD320 for speeding and they had to accompany me for 1 hr to wait my uncle driving me back the key to unlock the car.

Welcome to the forum ... sorry abt the key issue. I only have one key for my Mercedes since I lost the other one.

I would have got the dealer to order another one for you before the sale. Its not cheap to order it yourself - maybe $8000.

BMWHK quoted me $3000 for replacement. $1000 for extra spare key. Do I need a spare key?

I've seen genuine BMW FOB keys listed on ebay from the US/UK for less than $60. All it needs is to be reprogrammed and cut. Make sure it's the correct frequency to the car for remote. I don't know what it is in HK though.

EDIT: Welcome to the world of bimmers and to the forum Trashken. I'm also new to the forum but not BMWs.

of course, you need the spare one. Otherwise, replacement plus towing plus time will be your spending if you lost the key. I was told by BMWHK that the system allowed key replication up to 10 in total.

$60 is worth a try vs HK$3000. How hard is it to reprogram and cut?

You need a key-programmer which not much shop in HK have. The cut is easy to deal with compare to programming.
