How many litres do you need for a 335i oil service?
Edit, looks like it's 6.5 litres. Will be popping down there tomorrow to pick some up.

It'll be at least 6.5L - I would get 1.5L extra, the overs can serve as top ups.

Excellent, thank you. I'll be off to Wilko's in a short while. It'll save me almost a tenner over ECP prices. My car goes into BMW tomorrow for an oil service.

I priced 7 litres up from ECP, and there was a lot more than a tenner difference even using the 25% discount code.

Ah I see what you mean. I was originally comparing 0w30. I've just looked at the price of 5w30! This is an uber bargain.

Finance and Planning (read 'the missus') will be ever so pleased!

I don't want to start another debate about this but from what I've read 0W30 is the officially recommended grade but 5W30 is also fine because it doesn't get sufficiently cold in the UK to make a difference.

Yeah I was wondering about the grade of it, but put my details in on the Opie oils checker, and 5w30 is listed on there as being correct.

Well if there's any Northamptonians reading this thread, we're out of luck. I went to the Wilkos at Favell and the town centre (shudder) and they're both out. ECP it is then for the 0w30.

Is it worth running 5W-40 in the UK?

All isn't as it seems, my daughter phoned me to tell me she's got the oil, so I went to pick her up to save her carrying it home and get it into the house and I just check a few bottles and it turns out she's bought 5w-40, that all they had in stock.

Can I use that oil in a 330d or is it no good?? It had 5w-30 in for its last service

5w-40 will be fine, it will just be a bit thicker when up to temperature, some prefer this as the car gets older as it will drink less oil.
Alpina tend to use 5w-40 in their engines where BMW says 5w-30.

You may find it take a little longer to get to temperature too, which is the only downside I guess?

Ok, thanks I'll give it a go, I do an oil change inbetween services so will keep an eye on the temp and if its taking ages to get upto temp I'll change it.
