iPhone 5 Question

Quick question. Am I right is saying that the marvellous iPhone 5 with its lightening connector won't stream audio via the standard adaptor I've got(which worked fine with my old iPod Touch)due to the fact that the bloody phone puts audio and so I can gather video out via digital only whereas the older stuff via the standard 30pin Apple connector does this in an analogue fashion.

My 335i only has the standard audio headphone jack adaptor/power adaptor in the centre armrest console but I was looking to purchase a decent iPod set up in the near future and because of this discovery I'm now a little hesitant re where to go. From the brief internet search I've done I can only see Dension with their 500s set up openly supporting the iPhone 5. Just wondered if anyone else has come across another solution.

Thanks for reading

Steve

Yup, in one.

I have the iPhone 5 and a three cars to connect to. The issue isn't the car of course...

So even if you adapt the lightning to the 30pin with the Apple adaptor, you still lose the important iPod control bit that you need in the car for compatibility.
The adaptors have digital to analogue converters inside which enable some things to work, but alas nothing reliant upon iPOD mode or video (cars!)
And forget Lightning to micro USB as I have them - only good for syncing to iTunes and charging ONLY.

Can you not just stream over Bluetooth - I do this in the other two cars and the Merc?

Not the case, as long as you have the combox option:

I'd love to be able to stream music via Bluetooth some of my old company cars had this facility(Mazda's)and this always worked like a dream, but in 2006 when my cars was built, perhaps it wasn't on BMW's radar which is just one of those things, but I know the later BM's have the facility and it does seem to work. Mine of course has the older CCC not the more up to date CIC, which wold perhaps on certain fronts make things a little easier, though I'd still I believe had with the CIC upgrade USB connectivity issues.

With Pro Nav voice control and all the other bits you'd think my E92 would have at least a USB(but sadly it wasn't spec'd)but again it's no easy task having this installed as a retro added. The lightening connectivity issue just compounds the issue. To me it's a serious omission by Apple re a consumer friendly upgrade you'd think the adaptor supplied would enable you to carry on listening to music as before.. Still they've given me the headphone socket...
