Custom Autozone N54 DCI

What's going on guys.

Okay, so I finally decided that I want to start modding my car, and where else to start but with the intake filters, it's easy and cheap. I like the simple set-up that BMS offers but I wanted one in blue, so I decided to build my own with Autozone parts.

This is not going to be a step by step DIY, I just wanted to share to you guys that there is another option.

I don't know these filters quality compared to the S&B filters that BMS offers but I figured, eh, it's going to be better than stock that's for sure. Okay so I picked up two blue Spectra filters from Autozone for $25 a piece, two 3" to 2" couplings from Lowes, because the filters flange is at a minimum of 3". That cost me about $4 each. I then found some black PVC pipes in my neighbors shed and he let me have em. So this whole set-up only costed me about $60. Which is almost a 50% savings if you were to buy the BMS.

I finally test drove my car after everything was done, and OMG the sound is freaking intoxicating. I'm not sure if it was just me but I felt a way better responsiveness from my throttles. However, it was a fun build and I hope you guys enjoy this one! Cheers.

One of the most interesting DIYs I've seen in a while. Not a little people look at what they're buying and think "hey, that just x and y, I could do that myself." Very cool.

I dont see how you clamped the cone to the oem pipe... from what it looks like you stuck the oem pipe INSIDE the filter neck and clamped ?

Boom! Done, haha. There's actually an intake box DIY somewhere in this forum but I got too lazy to look for it. But that link will direct you to the BMS Tuning website that has a video of how you can take the intake box out, along with a lot of other instructions for different mods.

Oh, no.

So basically once I took the box out, I'm left with two OEM pipes and clamps. I stuck the 2" PVC pipe in the OEM pipes and clamped that down, and from the 2" PVC comes the adapter and then I clamped that adapter to the filters.

So from the OEM pipes>2" PVC Pipe>Adapter>Filters. I hope that helped you out a bit. I can take a closer picture for you if you're still lost.

No, you're right, it is a pretty tight fit haha. I had to angle the OEM pipes a little bit in order for everything to fit, but fortunately the OEM pipes are made of soft plastic so it's pretty forgiving.

the same thing is true for the BMS filters and setup, the rear filter is very tight. I have a question what about hot air from other engine components? In some setup I have seen scoop around the filter. Does it make it a difference?

Also do you know how long in lenght the 2" PVC pipe has to be? thanks.
