Yes, the Z4 3.0si has the 3-stage intake manifold. Your 3.0i just needs the manifold and associated peices. Any tuner that has software for the Z4 3.0si will have the programming you need.

I'm about to order those parts but I have a question.
While entering the PN for the manifold on Tischer, it gives me 7 choices but none of them is identified as the manifold for the 330i (I got a 325). So are they all the same? I assume that they are because they have the same part number, but I want to be sure prior to place the order. Thanks.

so, my brother-in law is a tech at bmw. is it possible to flash 330i software onto a 325i? if yes, then i'll just need to install the intake, and not need gintani tune correct?

There's OE tuning also. That's what I have and works ok. Needs a little fine tuning though.

what do you mean by OE tuning, are you saying the dealer will pute 3.0si software on my 3.0I computer, yea i know that sounds silly but i thought id ask. I looked at a few but it seems they stop at the 05 model year and the n52 nobosy touches. so basically i can install the 3 stage manifold and connect the two wires that are pluged into the dead plugs that are attached to the 1 stage intake into the 2 air acuators or whatever you call them from the 3 stage and they will work but I wont get the rest of the HP till i find someone to reflash my computer to 3.0si software? |

No, OE tuning is a company that offers tunes for the n52 among other cars. The dealer cannot put tuning on your car other that the one originally designed for it. It's encoded in your VIN.

ok so OE tuning can basically make my ECU think its a SI instead of an I ? that would be cool, I found out that the SI Z4 and the I Z4 N52 use the same exhaust and cat and all other parts are identical except for the brakes are a bit bigger and the whole 3 stage intake thing with different software. I have bought the new calipers, dust sheild and rotors to do the swap and all i need is the right software to take advantage of the new 3 stage intake, that way I should have more or equal HP as an SI, unless im missing something. thanks for the info, i will call them and see what they say. |

I have a little bit of detonation at low rpm but OE tuning has fixed it. I just need to install it on my ECU. As of now it makes 218 WHP @ 6500 rpm and 195 ft-lbs of torque with 100 octane. I don't have the file for the last dyno I did.

This is my dyno of my 3 stage conversion before the software update. I’m not sure what is the conversion from WHP to CHP for this rig but it looks like there is little or no HP increase. The good news is that there is a good increase in torque, the max torque is reached at 2000 RPM and the power curve is without gaps. Now I have to decide which software to choose and than I will post dyno with the software update.

BMW robs the 325 on power after 6000rpm. You see how the power drops sharply then flatens out then hits the rev limiter? The valve lift is reduced the last 1000 rpm to keep the power below the 330i. When you get the tune, peak power occurs 500rpm later and flatens out until the limiter.

I have read the thread and am wondering if anyone has done the conversion to a 328 without any kind of software change?
Has anyone done the conversion and tried to use the stock 330 software on a 328?

You don't have to update the software. It works with the stock tune, but it's pointless if you don't upgrade the tune. If you want to do it in stages, you can install the manifold first and update the software later or visa versa.
