Minimum Oil Light Came on 08 335i Convertible

The 1qt display popped up, so I need to top off a 08 2008 335i convertible. I called the nearby dealer, and since I live a little ways from them, they told me to add a quart of Castrol 5w30 full synthetic oil.

I just wanted to make sure is this a good oil to use on this car?

This should be fine, but ideally try and find out what the last dealer that serviced the car typically uses (specifically what they used at the time), and then get the same brand/spec.

5w30 is not LL01. Castrol has 5w40, 0w30 and 0w40 which are BMW LL01

Maybe where you are, but you do get 5w30 that is indeed LL01. I have always used Castrol's 5w30 which is LL01 and used to be called SLX, but was rebranded as Magnatec Professional.

Yeah, I used the 5w30 Castrol, no issues. Appreciate the help too.

May end up buying a quart from the dealer next time or order it online, just to have.

No problem! Always good to have a quart in the boot (trunk) or at home so that you can top up whenever necessary.

We don't get the ll01 approved 5w30 castrol in the US for some reason.

It's still a fine oil to use, just for some reason doesn't carry the ll01 cert in this country.

Just buy a case so you have some on hand. It doesn't go bad.
