Cost to add Sirius

We just picked up our new E91. It has the iDrive/nav but no Sirius.
The dealer wants $1150 to add Sirius. If it is preinstalled at the
factory it is 350. What gives?

If its a 2010, it doesn't even need a hardware module, it is a software update only; I've heard about $500. If its a 2009 or ealier, it needs a $400-500 module and labor time for install and programming. When I looked for my 2008, it was about $800.

As it turned out, our new 2010 e91 did have the Sirius module. The
cost to have the software update was $429. I was pleasantlty suprised
that after a $1150 estimate (checked with 2 dealers), Monrovia BMW
(where we bought the car) charged $429. When activating the radio
however, Sirius wouldn't honor the 90 days free because I was a current
subscriber (on our turned in 335). In fact I have 3 Sirius and 2 XM (1 weather)
subscriptions and they wouldn't wave the $15 transfer fee.
I'm not done with that.

First of all, software update for mine after I retrofitted the module was $120, so I think you got jipped on that, and I also got a year of free subscription, as I simply registered it to my name instead of the name on the account that we have the other cars on. They didn't really even care who it was registered to.

FYI: the actual MSRP is $375 and .5hr of labor (loading), and it is a whole free year of service included.

This only applies to the new iDrive (built in Sirius tuner) for MY2010-on.

Well not to take someones thead, but im just trying to get something straight.

I have a 2009 335i Coupe, as far as I know their is not pre-installed sirius or anything.

So can someone tell me what I should expect to do and pay to get it working.

As it is, the costs I see flying around here are rediculous LOL.... I'll just use my Ipod. (still curious for answer though).

Sirius is pre-wired for MY2009.

Buy all the parts at Tisher or United BMW, install it yourself and then take it to the dealer for activation... that's the cheapest route: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1915

Call them and your dealer for pricing info, as prices will vary...

Hey stratplaya06,

Where in MD did you get your radio installed and activated?

I'm in DC with a 2010 335i convertible. I would love to get Sirius.

Thanks!!

Does anyone know how much it is to upgrade a MY2009 to the new time shift RDS2 sat. radio? I have been reading threads and not sure if it only requires a CIC upgrade or more? Is it even possible to upgrade the CIC in a MY2009 to a MY2010? Thanks in advance.

I just spoke to my dealer to do the Sirious in my 2010 335i. They tell me that I need all the hardware and with labor comes up to $1,100. Does anyone know for sure if the MY 2010 comes with the hardware installed? I don't mind paying the 250-429 for activation, but don't want to go through the hardware upgrade. Thanks.

If you can find one used taken from another vehicle (it has to be the correct part# for your vehicle) then all you have to do is install it and it does not need to be coded at the dealer.

The dealer is quoting me the following for a 09/09 built of the 2010 335i Convertible:

Retrofit Code $374.88
Antenna $141.72
Installation and software coding $280.00

My question is: Doesn't the 2010 models come with the antenna?

Also, isn't $280 too high for labor?

Thanks.

Since they charge you and arm an leg for addons

It looks like an aftermarket head unit that has all this stuff in it starts to make sense even though its a pain to install.
