Ordered wrong part from BMW
Want to do the ashtray/sunglass mod and thought i ordered the right part but its just a tray. Cant use the door on it.
The previous owner melted the ash tray with their cigarettes (idiot) so I def need to switch it out. Has anyone just done the new tray with no door option. It really is ALOT more space but no door this way My car is an 07 328i coupe ... See below |

I think you would be happier with the tray you ordered. THe sunglasses tray is much smaller.

I did the mod with the BMW sunglass tray (cover snapped right onto it). Worked fine with my old glasses, bought a set of Bolle's, and now I cannot close the lid since the tray is too shallow.

I have the open tray in my car, my wife has the sunglasses tray with the lid. She can't fit her sunglasses in there. I prefer the open one, but since you already ordered the other one too, you will be able to decide for yourself!

I just did this swap a couple days ago. My friend has the sunglass tray with the lid. I decided to go with the oddments tray without the lid and prefer it.
It looks like the tray shown in your picture. |

What is the part number for the non-lidded oddments tray?
OP, if you decided to use the covered tray, do you still have the uncovered one? If so, I'll purchase it from you I have bigger sunglasses so the door is useless to me anyways. thanks! -Justin |

Asked this in a different thread, but never got a response. Seems there are knowledgeable folks in this thread as well, so going to try again.
Whats the difference between the part that the OP referenced and just the "insert" part 51-16-7-118-065? One is much less than the other, but I am not sure if just the insert will work. |

Oddments tray
51169198283 The insert above 51167118065 is just a black rubber piece that goes in the bottom of the tray. When you order the oddments try above, the insert comes with it. |
