330i N52 - rattle when under load...

I've noticed a rattle / clunking that seems to be coming from the centre console (or something underneath) when the engine is under load i.e. accelerating quite hard through 2-3000rpm. I've heard it worst when doing a quick-ish hill start, so I guess it is torque related.

Have tried to search for the issue and seems there are a few potential causes:

1) DISA flaps chattering
2) Exhaust rattle (exhaust is standard except for a BMW Performance back box)
3) Engine mounts
4) Something loose inside the centre console

Any thoughts?

For anyone interested, the issue was a couple of loose bolts on the centre bearing - re-torqued, no noise, no issue!

Good job by K&M Autotechnic in Windsor - got the oil filter housing gasket replaced too.

what do you mean by centre bearing, do you mean propshaft related?

Yep - propshaft centre bearing - hence the rattle sounded like it was coming from the centre console

Did you get the noise when not enough revs, like pulling away in 2nd gear from a low speed (not stationary)? Think I have the same issue, sounds a bit like exhaust heat shield rattle.

Started as just a rattle that seemed to occur when around 1,500rpm and not particularly under any load. Got worse after a while and seemed to then occur only when accelerating hard or doing something where there is significant load such as hill starts.

And yes, it does sound a little like an exhaust shield or similar is loose.
