It absolutely boggles my mind that in the age of unlimited information, that there are still people this financially illiterate. Atleast the roads would be a lot more cleared up if they brought back debtors' prisons.

I call it lazification....again I use this example...my grandfather could use pencil and paper and amortize a mortgage. My dad can use a calculator. I can use a spreadsheet.

There is a whole society of "literate" folks who rely upon java/flash and a web browser to amortize a mortgage--that is the only way they could do it. Reminds me of a car finance manager who punches in numbers and tells you what changed, as if you are working together to get the number you want monthly. You should be working against that finance manager to get the number you planned upon prior to walking in.

Today, if the internet goes down, there is a whole society who would be clueless. But, I think there is hope, there are more and more people every year who are getting into all 8 Ivy League schools, 5 + Stanford, etc. In my time, that was unheard of....society will not self destruct, believe me, because smart folk always see opportunities...
