in reply to Falmouthboy

its early days yet, there are some legal people starting to make enquiries for me, there could be a slim hope

any compensation is nothing though, it can't give me back the fitness i've worked 10 yrs at

some people related to british cycling are really trying for me, am quite taken back by the support they're giving.

i was told the driver was an illegal imigrant by the police, my car insurance does have legal protection

in relation to my insurance regarding sport, only covers damage i might do to someone else or their property, whilst training / racing etc. Insuring myself for injuries caused by sport etc has been just too expensive, however had i actually turned proffessional already it would have been in place

Its bad enough being in an accident full stop but to be hit by an uninsured driver is terrible and even worse than that, he was an illegal, body odour smelling, imigrant. Great.

All the best Katie.

Was this fella arrested? He should well have been regardless of force policy regarding illegal entry. The compounding factors and a (possibly/very likely) bollox address given. I hope things go your way chook!

No lawyer will try that, and at no grounds, solicitor can do it, unless T.P is proven guilty.

If T.P was from wealthy family, he must have already offered 'help' to O.P.

It is too early to talk about recovery period or surgery for your knee.

From my experience, I can assure you that max rehab time for knee is 6 months, and that is in worst case scenario. I am not talking about prognosis of your knee which will be mentioned by insurance company's solicitor (probably 8-16 months), but real life recovery time in worst case scenario.

Forget about surgery, and start icing if your knee is swollen. Get an appointment with your GP to get it looked.

For athlete, it is always mental fitness, which overcome all the hurdles, and if you are consistent, you will make your way.

'Life goes on'.

Very sorry to hear about what happened to you and appreciate how upsetting it is. Just wonder how you know that he is an illegal immigrant and what he smelled strongly of?

Explanation here (same thread):

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=45

Not sure what he smelt of though, perhaps the crash made his bowels explode knowing he was about to be busted as an illegal immigrant!

Kathy, have you got legal cover on your household insurance?

If yes,you might want to have a word with them in regards taking out a case against the scrote for your injuries, worth a call even if just for some guidance/advice.

All the best Katie.
So the fact that he was an illegal immigrant is worse than the fact that he was uninsured? How does that work? I would hate to be to in an accident but if I was I would rather the driver was insured regardless of his immigration status. I really sympathise with the op especially with regard to her injuries and the effects on her sporting career it must be devastating but does that excuse other posters zeroing in on a guys immigration status. Uninsured, drunk, reckless, high on drugs etc I despise them all and their nationality, colour or immigration status is irrelevant to me.

To the op good luck, I am glad that the job looks ok, hope you get a reasonable financial settlement although it cannot compensate you for your loss what is hardest to salvage is your athletic career. Stay strong and I hope that you have good support around you.

the young man who crashed into me had no insurance, no license, driving without due care and attention....with many witness

so his case came to court and they withdrew the charges

is it any wonder this country has such a massive crime problem

or is it just me ...being paranoid.

surely the police must of informed you they were withdrawing the charges, and for what reason.

were your insurers, or their legal reps informed?

i would look into consulting a solicitor and bringing a civil claim against them

Absolutely unbelievable.

I've just read the thread from start to finish and totally sympathise with you're situation Kathy, I'm shocked and wish you the best for the future.

The uk is now a free for all for who ever wants to come here and do as they please, but if you are a Law abiding citizen you will be shafted at every opportunity, shameful.

very true!....

if ur a chav driving with no licence or insurance or road tax....u get flashed by a speed camera, the chances that they find you are very unlikely...

whereas if you pay for your MOT, road tax, insurance, all paperwork in order, you get flashed....you get buttfcuked with a fine, 3 points on ur licence and your insurance fcuks you over aswell without lube come renewal time....

thats one fcuked up system!...

Reading this thread just makes my blood boil.
I cant believe with all that against the guy the charges are dropped?

If he is an illegal, surely he should now at the very least be deported?
