Inspired by an earlier DIY post where someone made a matt black one for about a tenner I'm going to attempt a hi-gloss black shadowline DIY tomorrow. I've bought everything I need and its only cost £18 so all being well by Sun I should have one.
I'll do a thread with pics once I'm sorted. If you want to buy one, do a search for hi-gloss grill as a couple of people on here (in the US i think) do them. Dan

Keen to see the result. I have Le Mans Blue + Shadowline, and while I think the Matt Black looks great on some colours (grey, white, etc) I'm not convinced about it on Le Mans, but like you think the gloss black would look better. Not sure I'm up for doing it myself.... might be a used matt black one and give a try without the risk of ruining my oginla one.

Besides, when you come to sell, simply pop the OEM one back on! I have just used white Plasti-kote paint ro do my radiators at home and it is excellent stuff! They are bound to do it in black gloss and it seems very durable. EDIT: found it in gloss black - http://www.choiceful.com/disprod.php?pId=69973 |

I painted my original grilles. Sprayed the chrome with grey primer, a few good coats of black gloss and a few of lacquer.
Looks great and has not chipped at all. Only sprayed the chrome left the vertical slats OEM |

Don't worry too much about the paint code for Shadowline. I purchased some matt black grills via another poster on this site. Cleaned them up, and sprayed the surrounds only with primer, BMW Black (from Halfords), then laquer. I'm very pleased with the results and the contrast of the shiny surround to the matt slats works great. I think spraying the slats evenly would be quite a challange!
