Kilometers? I need to step my game up with preventative maintenance, I've been using the excuse of having my CPO warranty/extended maintenance warranty for now, but I'm sure my car could use a little TLC. Injectors, plugs, afraid to mess with the transmission fluid though. I'm at 71K miles.

An oil change (low mileage, but was about 7 months since last one) and a fresh air filter (59k miles, likely the original...) and my car's as perky as ever.
I'm not sure how bad an old one should look, but here's a side by side. The paper core was a different base color between the two which made them difficult to compare. Plenty of gray dust embedded in the old filter however. Air filter is pretty cheap to do every few years...

My car is just reaching 100K km / 60K miles, and I think it needs a little more maintenance than BMW has scheduled.

I find the 'lifetime' fluid and super-extended changes program a little spooky. I 'get' that modern synthetic engine oils can theoretically go 10, 15, 20k miles and maintain some standard of lubrication, thermal protection, etc... but if i can actually /feel/ a loss in power around 6 or 7k miles which is completely alleviated by an oil change, I rekon that's about time that efficiency and perhaps some protection is being lost. This is even more pronounced in our (heavy + underpowered) Touareg. Poor thing can hardly get out of its own way when we're up into oil-change time.*
I was surprised by the air filter change. Bit more intake 'sound' now, and of course the car pulls like it was new. Completely makes sense, though, being naturally aspirated /any/ resistance is going to have a negative impact. I'm eyeing that carbon filter removal now... *I don't have oil analysis to back up my observations, and my butt-dyno's likely in need of calibration.

If any one needs an oem air filter I have one I got with my oil change kit from tischer. However I didn't use it because I have an oiled aFe drop in.
$20 shipped anywhere in the CON US. |

Ive done spark plugs, engine air filter, carbon filter removal, power steering fluid, front and rear diff fluid, transfer case fluid, trans fluid, and coolant. Then had a GM top end clean performed and an oil change shortly after. This all around 55k miles.
Biggest thing that changed is about 500 miles after that I sloooooowly blew a coil. Replaced that, my car gets the best gas mileage I have ever had since purchasing the car 20k miles ago, and its pretty quick too... Especially for being at such a high altitude.

Not yet - the engine is a little happier lately with the colder air. Combined city/hwy driving is fairly stable at 10L/100km since I cleaned the MAF and reset the CPU (which is better than the previous 11L/100km. I'm still running Shell 91 exclusively (zero ethanol).
I plan to get the injector cleaning from BMW right before my next oil change, and change the spark plugs - then look for a dyno run if it still feels weak.

MAF cleaner. simply take it out, 20 quick squirts around it. let it dry itself, pop that sucker back in. Drive like hell.

Heres my 06 330i 6MT doing 0-60 in about 6, I just bought it with 59k though but so far it seems like it was maintained pretty well. And I just cleaned my MAF and put seafoam through it. |

There was very little smoke, and I didn't want to have to look for a new 1-time clamp for the vacuum hoses so I put the seafoam in a spray bottle, removed the airbox, and sprayed it straight into the intake hose. That was a couple weeks ago and today I just had my service engine soon light come on, went to autozone and they dont have any bmw codes for it (P1553 for most manufacturers), so Im gonna reserve my judgement on seafoam until I find out if this is related lol.

I'm wondering about this too, because my used 100k mile 325i seems anemic.
I also noticed that the spark plugs were encrusted in carbon when I changed them out. (unfortunately i notice alittle sludge build up too)... maybe older e90's that were neglected need valve jobs to get the power back.

If you have sludge i your motor, someone went to long on oil changes..... So you need to run one of those crank case cleaners through it. There are things that are easier and better for your motor out there then seafoam these days. Just do a little research, I would get 2 new oil filters a can, bottle, whatever of the crank case cleaner that you idle your car for 15 min with then change the oil. When you put it in there put in the one of the new oil filters. Run it for the time recommended, then drain the oil and change the filter again.
Also I don't buy the 15k oil changes. If anything its a problem waiting to happen. Your driving style, distance driven a day, and how much your car is allowed to warm up are things that should dictate how long your oil stays in your motor. I would highly suggest getting your oil analyzed to see how much your engine is breaking down inside. The company that does it for you will give you a suggest for oil drain intervals. And tell you what is going on inside your motor. Then get it done yearly to see if anything changes dramatically. |

would chevron techron be safe for 6MT. I dont know where I've heard this but I heard that MT injectors are different than AT injectors. But that can be very old school.
