Commisons depend on options and hold back.. .it really goes buy model...you make more cash if ya sell a 5 over a three, or a 7 over a six.. ..but bimmer SA's can make some serious cash..if they are just honest... .it's one car people want to own..so if your making 650 on a 325..so figure about 800 for a 5 before any options..sell 6 or seven a month of a basic 3 series....you should be good to go:rocks: so if ya moving like 15 a month....your the man/women

$650 on a 325? $650? Are you alright???

A 325 is almost a guaranteed "mini" at our dealership. After packs, a typical deal on a 325i at full MSRP is barely a $500 como. A more typical 325 deal pays a $150 flat.

Suprisingly enough, my store isnt a big dealership. We have 2 nissan stores about 20 miles away from eachother (both are Ira Nissan's) and I work in the smaller one that sells about 125 units a month where the other one sells about 170 or so. The month of august I really stepped up and set a store record, I sold the most units in one month than any sales person has in the history of my store (the dealer has been their for 5 years now) The record was 27, I shattered it with 31 units out the door .. granted I worked 64 hours the last week of the month.

To support his argument, Mini's on new cars happen frequently. Any entry level car or the one that moves the most units usually turns into a mini. A mini means the mininum commission you can get on a sale. So if I sell an Altima and the dealership profits $400 off the deal (theirs only $1300 in markup to begin with) then I get a mini of $100 ($100 is the mininum in my store) becuase if I got the 20% of the front end profit like I would then it wouldnt be higher than $100. Used cars are where I make money in car sales. I sold an 03 Nissan Xterra yesterday and made $754 off that deal. The reason why for those who do not know if becuase consumers dont know what I own a used car for, unlike new cars where the invoice isnt a big secret.

Depends on your perspective. Commission should relate to the value the CA adds. In many cases the customer walks up, specifies exactly what they wants and the salesperson becomes simply an order taker

It might seem like that happens a lot becuase all of us on this forum are car enthuiests and know exactly what we want, however the grneral population shops cars and price.. and even most of us on this forum shop price as well. Sales people have to sell themselves and the dealership to earn buisness, customers can buy a car anywhere.. even BMW

I'm a Used Car Manager at a BMW dealer. I have access to all of our deals and can pull up the gross profit on any deal I want to. I also have the ability to see what a salesperson makes for commission on any deal I want to...

$800 on a 5-series is also a very rare thing... I have no reason to lie to you... and if you say I'm full of it....

They make it up on used cars, where the commissions are much higher and I give out big "spiffs" on aged inventory. They also make it up on specialty cars where they do make big commissions, plus on volume bonuses.

In today's extremely competitive marketplace, it's very hard to show any significant gross on a 3-series, 5-series, X3 or X5. With everyone here bragging about how they paid $500 over invoice, $1000 over invoice, etc., it's easy to see where all the gross has gone.

Do you sell BMWs in the US?

Are you telling me that you regularly make $500 como on a 325 and $800 on a 5-series?

Where are you selling these cars???

I sell Nissan. I started april 1st and have 112 cars out the door to date. (8/17) In 17 days I have 16 cars out. I am the top sales at my store and out sell and out gross everyone and I'm on track to make around $135k this year. I am averaging 23 cars a month working 55 hrs a week. Whatever that works out to be an hour im sure its very decent for a 20 year old.

As far as BMW goes I love the product, however I would never sell it. In a few year when im in my mid 20s I want to goto Lexus. Does anyone know what the markup is in a lx400h or a ls430?.. about 9-11k markup. Sell one of those at sticker your profit on the front end is about $2000. At out lexus store the top three sales constultants are making over $240k a year. Yes 240k a year. Average sales guys make about 150k working reg 40 hr work weeks. BMW has a very small markup (its not far off from Nissan) and ever thought its a great product, its harder to move. If anyone really wants a easy way to sucess and you love cars, and get along with people well, then this industry is a goldmine. I recently got my BMW lease (employee discount) and also just put a nice down payment on a 2 family house that I am renting out to 2 families. I am profitting $800 a month from that on top of my commissions and bonuses. In all honestly I am not trying to brag by any means I am just trying to shed some light on the industry.
there is that much mark up because of the discount needed to sell the car.....
, you'll see that mark up dissapear soon....Lexus will catch on, and lessen the margin.

hehe I guess our ideas of perks are all different. If my aunt works past 9 pm in the city, she gets to ride a limo back to her house in the NJ suburbs, and also $25/day for food.

Like some others, I thought it'd be exciting being around all these nice vehicles at the BMW dealership, until I stopped by in the middle of the day for some paperwork--nobody doing anything, no customers, and overhearing salespeople cold-calling. I wouldn't do that even for 6-figures....

Telephone sales, straight commission, paid 1099. My top 4 salesman make over 300k/year (1099). and 5-8 make about 100k (1099). They work 40-45 hours a week with potential for parnership to top perfomers in future companies. Paid vacations at 2k/week, 4 per year. Take the blinders off and PM me, I'm hiring six new guys in january 07'

I'm currently billing $125-135 on a long term, but shorter term engagements my record is $180 Of course I OWN my IS consulting firm (corp-tp-corp) and I come in as the project director or sometimes team lead. BTW, I live in St louis which means in Manhattan terms...well you do the math. I save most of my rate for an early retirement, and always have at least 9 months of living expenses cash or liquid investments on hand for any industry downturns, though I've personally not been hit too hard by any other than when the offshore companies drove down rates for awhile, until people realized they could not deliver what they promised.

My wife covers my health benefits, but before I was married I had a high deductable health plan with full prescription coverage for $160/month found at eHealthInsurance.com.

I, too, dream of having a fun job some day.

Pretty easy to figure out how much a BMW sales consultant makes.

Commission = ((0.09 X vehicle MSRP) - Discount) X 0.20

holy crap! you guys are still talkin about this??!!

I am absolutely amazed you guys are still talkin about what we as CA's make. So I will tell you.

The top person made 500,000 at Beverly Hills. Sold over 650 new cars last year. Gods honest truth. She has an entire staff of her own.

The bottom guys will make about 40k. They are either, a) lazy or b) at a very small dealership.

Im at Global Imports BMW in Atlanta. We are quite successful, but certainly not the largest. Vista, Braman smoke us. But we have been around for 35 years.

Therefore we have 11 out of 16 salespeople making well over 80k. The others have been there less than 3 years.
Our top person made 275k last year. There is money, lots of money to be made in car sales.

The trick is to get on board with a dealership with a payplan that matches how you sell your cars. In other words, its the dealership that decides how they pay their salespeople, not BMW.

Any questions?
