RESOLVED. Please HELP: E92 window doesnt crack open when the door is opened

Drivers side is fine, but passenger's will not open. If you have E92 you know what I am talking about, like when you open the door the window cracks open by about .5 inches and when you close it it goes back up to seal the window.

Seatbelt assist works, so car knows that I open/close the door. Checked all the associated fuses, none are blown. Also window opens/closes manually from either switch (drivers and passenger).

No warranty so no "go to the dealer" please

That sucks, can you even open that door? Saw some trick related to window cracking and dead battery. Do a search and see if there's some reset or something you could fiddle with.

Side question - can you roll own that window? Blown window motor or programming issue?

Is your Child lockout switch on?

Sounds like your window position calibration is out, have you had a anti-trap warning display recently or a window jam? Can you open the windows/sunroof by holding down the unlock on your remote, then the windows open?

E92 does not have window locks.
Motor does not sound blow since it opens. Might just have to recalibrate the opening/closing. Sounds like it could be off and not "fully" closed according to the sensors.

Have you tried holding down the down function for 5 seconds? This is the reset for older 5 series

Ok, just checked. Holding down unlock button will open car and driver's window and after a while moonroof. But not passenger window. So what does that means? Sensors? Also just checked manual operation still works.

Also what's a "down function"? Window down button?

Window down function (switch)on the passenger side...hold it down for 5 sec. If that doesn't work, your anti trap sensor might be at fault

so windows go down 'manually' as in if you press the down button, what about 'auto up' or 'auto down' like pressing up past the tension point

OK, it just opened the window, nothing happened. If there is a way to reset them it is not holding it down for 5 secs. Tried like 3 times with both ignition on, car on and just keys inside.

No, auto up/down doesn't work, manual works. What does that means?

OK, I have attached a PDF of the Initialization procedure but I don't think that's your problem. I think the Car Access System (CAS) has detected fault and has placed window in manual mode, causes could be the window motor thermal protection, Door Position Indicators (DPI), the CAS isn't seeing the the passenger side inside or outside door handle input the window doesn't react (Check your door locking fuses). This would explain the window not reacting with the remote auto down mode and possible the one touch feature not working as well. Other possibilities could be the CAS system is working properly but the Footwell Module (FRM) passenger window relay isn't functioning. Check your fuses for both the windows and door locking system.

I did find one interesting note in the manual, "If the CAS module receives a request to operate the convenience closing or opening for more than 110 seconds, the function is deactivated and a fault code us stored."

If you have a total or partial failure of the CAS system, the windows will always work in the manual mode.

IT WORKS!!! Thanks a lot. It was the window initialization issue. I guess someone was bored and held the down button for 15 secs effectively erasing the open/closed position settings.

So I followed instructions to the letter and was able to successfully reinitialize the passenger door. In the instructions it says open all windows, but I figured why all if I have a problem in just one? So I did problem door only.

Now all three features work, one-touch open/close, remote open (holding open on remote longer, and last but not least it cracks open when opening the door.

Again thanks a lot 3s4u2

These instructions worked for me, 2006 325xi touring (e91). THANK YOU!!!

Mine was only going up 1 inch per try - I did what the instructions said, but to get the window up I had to pull the button up 7 or 8 times, then finished with the 15 second hold after it was all the way up. that was the only thing that wasn't exactly as it said.

Sometimes I think my car and I play a game - it puts up the warning light, then I have to sort it out.. at least this one was free.

Thank you so much this worked for me. Window would not crack open while opening or see you back when closing. I simply held the door unlock button for five seconds...while holding, I lowered the window all the way down then back up. Then I released the unlock button. Open my door to see if it worked and Wala automatically cracked open and automatically seals shut when opening and closing. Thank you so much so glad this worked.
