bimmersport says wg rattle is normal

Had a PPI done at bimmersport. They conclude wg rattle is "within spec". Does that make any sense? Most people in US get new turbos from even slight rattling.

But this is Canada and we have no such warranty. You either have to deal with it or shell out for new ones and even then, there's no guarantee you'll be rattle free. I'm at 160km, OG turbos, Cobb tuned for the last 50km and mine only rattles until the car warms up. I've learned to deal.

+2...you also have the option to go to another independent shop...RMP, Columbus, etc...get another opinion if it will make you feel better...

Yea this is right. It all depends on your SA tho and whether or not you had CPO from that dealer.

With private warranty it's about getting the right opinion and even then they may want to send out their own mechanic appraiser.

I "mentioned" that the WG was rattling to the SA when my car was in for service and they replaced them under CPO warranty; no complaining required. However, within 6 mos., the rattle was back so I've learned to live with it since it only rattles within the first minute of startup; after the idle drops, it goes away. I never did notice any drivability difference after the new turbos were installed.

Was this intended for me, or the OP? I don't have a JB4; mine is stock currently. But I do have a Cobb AP sitting in a box ready to be deployed.

But the OP says it's a private sale and didn't mention any warranty. There's still no extended warranty in Canada like there is in the US. In the US, anybody can have their turbos replaced as long as they're within the mileage window set by BMW but I must say, it's great that you guys got yours taken care of. If you weren't CPO though, I bet your response to this thread would be different.

This...except I went through Coverage One 3rd party warranty instead of CPO. SA heard it right away and had went through many turbo replacements before. Coverage One sent out their own adjuster to confirm the issue. Total cost to me was the $200 deductible + tx. Total invoice was approx. $6800 with parts and labour.

For op. If you have a jb4, check your FUD (Future use D) if it's at 98, set it to 0, or if it's at 0, set it to 98. That fixed my waste gate rattle, where menu 10 and 12 wouldn't do nothing for me.

No mods here either. Got mine done at Mississauga BMW 10 mos ago. Did your wg rattle come back after the repair? Mine did after 6 mos, but only for the first 10s after startup. The off-throttle rattle is gone though.

Also got my A/C evaporator replaced under CPO at the same time, so the warranty was well worth it ... close to 10g's in repairs! And Mississauga BMW gave me a loaner for almost a week.

Wow nice luck there! Yep rattle is in the same situation as you, although I also notice it when warm in an underground garage (subtle, but you can still make it out), on decel from 1500-1000 rpm. Otherwise you can't hear it, esp. if windows are up.
