Hunter Wheel Alignment

Thought id get some advice,

Just changed the bushes and front/rear control arms (and rear suspension) and been told i need to have my alignment done again.

From what i can see can either get normal alignment done, or do the Hunter laser alignment.

2 questions - is one better than the other, and how much should i be looking to pay?

Thanks!

Average going rate is about £60 for 4 wheel alignment with hunter machine.

I find that it depends on how many adjustments are needed.

Yes - A 4 wheel alignment is a necessity on a BMW, or most cars to be honest. If the alignment is out, the car does handle noticeably weirdly! Not to mention odd tyre wear and sometimes even odd tyre noises.

A regular tracking basically checks that both front wheels are pointing the same direction (ie: toe in/out adjustments).

If you've only just had the bushes changed, leave it a week or so to let things settle before you have the alignment done

A 4 wheel alignment checks all 4 wheels are aligned, that everything points the right way when the steering wheel is centred. The camber, toe and castor are checked (no castor on the rear, obviously) - and if done properly this is done with some weights added to the car....or a couple of guys sat in it at the time!

National Tyre centres tend to have Hunter machines - I know my local one does. I think the last time I had it done a few months back the checking was £45, and then adjustments charged on top of that. Pretty sure it didn't work out to any more than £60 or so with all adjustments done.

It used to be more expensive because it was considered something only enthusiasts and people who were anally retentive about their cars did (and BMW would charge stupid money for doing it), but it's a lot more common these days so isn't as pricey.

Watch out for which alignment mapping they're using. Someone tried to put the M3 adjustments on my M-Sport because they didnt know what they were doing.

Had it done there today - all of it was out!

They could do everything but camber at the front they couldn't do - something about needing to move a pin or whatever - didn't really understand.

Rest of it was all green tho - and they took a good while doing it as well.

Was it something with the track rod being seized? (Problem I had yesterday during alignment)

How much did they charge?

They charged a flat £75 ... and was a good hour my car was on the ramp.

Not sure it made a huge diff to the car, but they def did a lot of adjustments on the car, so all in i would recommend them.

Yeah the camber at the front is fixed by a pin (can be removed with difficulty), probably to do with easier setup and installation on the production line.

Anyone else had trouble with the front toe pinch bolts? Mine is siezed on there!

Does eveyone just get factory settings put in? Im being charged more as im having it done to my own setup.

i asked them to max the rear camber (got it from -1 to -2.5) without the toe going outta line... and fix the front toe and steering alignment...

PM me for custom Hunter alignment in Surrey for less than any of the costs listed in this thread.

Done by knowledgable car enthusiasts like ourselves.

A few members have already had it done there through me (Sumil, Josh, Shaun) as well as myself of course.

Tyre supply/fit also.

Nothing in it for me - just trying to help people get their cars how they want them without spending a fortune to get mediocre 'mechanics' to do it.

Same here please.

The only other place I'm, aware of that is reasonably priced is Hounslow Tyres.
