Why discount order cars, but not floor cars?
The CAs seem to have more wiggle room when you want to order a car, than one on the floor.
Im really at a position with 2 months to go on my E46 cab, currently at 60K (on a 60K lease), and want a car so I don't wind up paying too much more on my current car because of km overage. My CA gave me 3.5 per cent off the car I purchased but doesn't seem to want to help me find a local car (which I know is out there at another dealer, cuz i saw it), and get out of the last two months payments (about 900 per month plus taxes). Advice? NB there is a black on black E93 with the options I want at a dealer here in Toronto, but, to be honest, it's black on black. I dunno if I want black on black. What are peoples' feelings about black on black?

they want to sell the instock cars first because that can make more room for more stock, therefore they will be more willing to give you discount on in stock cars

the OP said the exact opposite he said that the cars in the show room they are LESS willing to give discount but when you order a car, they are MORE willing to give discount

Perhaps when you order a car you are usually not in a big hurry, and you are more likely to spend time to negotiate price and to shop around.
When you buy from inventory, you are more likely led to believe by the CA that there is only one car out there that fits your requirements, and it is about to be sold if you don't jump on it right away. As such, you don't spend as much time to negotiate because you are afraid you will lose the deal! At the end you ended up paying more.

My experience has been the opposite: you can get a much better deal on a car in inventory which is on the dealer's lot.

My guess is many people don't want to wait for months and therefore willing to paid a little bit more to get it now.
This is usually the case durning this time of the year when the demand is high. |

by floor you mean the display cars right? well, the reason why they don't deal on that is because once they sell it to you at a discount, they'll have to bring in another one, which would be heavily discounted again later on? why bother? the only time they would deal it is at the end of the model year when they need to make room for the new model, e.g. when the E90s are first introduced, I'm sure the E46 floor models were heavily discounted
