Hmmm that is odd. Of course posting to this thread jinked me. After I said that never happened, I was driving out of the dealership yesterday, and a WTF, the radio is on. Turns out the IPOD locked up (which is different from your issue).

Stupid question, you're not bumping the audio selection button on the steering wheel (next to the volume)? That would make it jump sources.

I don't think so, but I'll have to make sure next time.

Here is a new one. It used to be that there was a tick
mark next to the ALB indicator. When I clicked on ALB,
there would be an option called CURR (current), and
if I clicked that, I would see the track names of the current
album (non-iDrive system).

Now, I put a few new songs in the ipod and the tick
mark is no longer available. And if I hit ALB, it'll
show the name of the first album on the ipod instead
of the one I'm listening to. The CURR option is no longer
available!

Is there a user's manual for 6FL?

Can anyone confirm that the latest software update will stop the audio system from switching from iPod to FM when you shut the car off and turn it back on?

Not sure of that, by I just took delivery on my E90 on Wed (assuming I have the latest software), and so far it always comes back to IPOD when I shut off my car, and turn it back on again.

Ok, I am a little lost. Does anyone know the part number for the most up to date Ipod Y connection cable, is it 61 120 440 812 or 61 12 0 440 796, or another number?
I am expecting delivery of E93 320d M Sport in July and the dealer has agreed to supply the Ipod/Ycable but I just want to make sure I do not end up with an old stock item.

Uh Oh..... exactly 1 year and now a 6fl issue

Suddenly my audio system with the 6fl adapter started stuttering. It seems to hqang up and play the same short sequence of qany song over and over. It switches artists, songs etc. fine it just stutters. I tried disconnecting the ipod and te 6fl adapter cable and then letting the car sit off over night. It still does it. The iPod by itself plays fine.

Has anyone ever seen this issue ??? If so how did you resolve it ??

Sorry guys, this may be a really stupid question but I wasn't able to find anything about it in the manual and I've only had the car for about a week. Is there a faster way to scroll through the songs than just turning the right knob and scrolling painfully slowly? I like how I can scroll through the phonebook alphabetically.

@msimon18 I started getting the same problem... but I also noticed in my directories the songs had like weired temporary files...
i.e.
2pac - california love
there would be another file name like
.2pac-californialove (with the dot in front)... not sure where it came from, but i think that's causing it.

I also did a id3 update in itunes to id3 tags 2.4, not sure if that is causing it.

I have the same question. Without Idrive, the navigation of my iPod seems really cumbersome... Would love an alphabetical "quick-scroll"!

I haven't tried this. but one option may be to create a playlist
with all the albums in it. Then, you can scroll through the playlist
alphabetically (I assume).

i have an '07 with idrive, but not USB. What part number do I need so I can buy this interface for the ipod, and is it easy to install (plug and play) or is it pretty hard?

Little help here would be great? Currently I am using the line-in and controlling the ipod manually...it hate that...

To my knowledge, 6FL cannot be retrofit (nor any portion thereof).

On another note, I got my car updated and after having to disconnect the USB side of the Y cable and plug it back in, the system is working much better than before. Scrolling is faster, and the detailed list is maintained after shutting the car off.

I've only had my car for less than a week. It's new. Also, I'm using a USB hard disk instead of an ipod. Today, for the first time, it jumped to FM instead of resuming the song that was playing off of the drive. It's only done it once, but I assume that I've got the latest software.

I didn't have to disconnect or power down anything to get it working again. I just hit the mode button twice and I was right back at my music library, but it didn't remember which song it was playing before.

Yep, that's the behavior. So far with the update (knock wood) mine has seemed better.

FWIW, after my update to progman 29.2, I notice that the system does not retain "random" as the checked option once the car is shut off and restarted. Minor annoyance, but annoying nonetheless.
Oddle enough, I used to have this problem, then somehow I corrected it, I wish I knew how, and the "random" option would stay checked regardless of powering the system on and off, until I physically pressed the option again. Now it's back to being a pain and turning off each time the power is turned off.

Well, it did it again once today. It's never done it when I'm using a flash drive, only with the hard drive. Could this be related to the startup time of the disk? The flash drive is ready immediately on powerup, but the disk takes a few seconds to spin up and be ready, so it's not "seen" by the car when it's looking for it, and it defaults back to the FM?

Just a thought...

I'd think that would be the deal. Could be something with the model of ipod too. All the larger ones (like the ipod classic that I have), have a hard disk drive inside. So it may not boot as fast as the car does.

I don't have an ipod. I'm using a 2.5" USB hard drive. It's a Maxtor OneTouch 160 GB. When I'm playing files from it and turn off the car, the iDrive switches back to FM about half the time. With a flash drive plugs in, it never does it. At least it hasn't yet....

That's what leads me to think it's a timing issue.

Good theory, might even be part of the problem. So far, after the update, my iPod remains the active selection even after several off/on processes.... so far, so good.

hard drives are not supported by the 6FL option, now you know why

I'd like to get some clarification on this comment...

I have January 08 built 335i w/ the 6fl option and "Y"-cable. It has worked perfectly with my OLD windows formatted 40gb ipod. Recently I purchased a new 160gb ipod classic, but it's formatted on my mac. I tried it on the weekend but idrive doesn't see it. I get the "do not disconnect" message on the ipod.

Is the comment above referring to the "Y"-cable? Is there an official note about this from BMW? If NOT, does it mean a mac fomatted ipod "should" work with 6fl?

Thanks to anyone that has info.
