Watching my Baby Leave
Hey gang. Long time, no post. Last night I nailed what felt like a huge pot-hole, but was actually an excessively deep man-hole. I was only going 45, but it felt like 80. Anyway, my RFTs are the only thing holding it up (front passenger), as it will not hold any pressure. Roadside was called this afternoon to request a tow from my house for inspection. They just took her away. I was on pins and needles as I allowed some tow-truck dude to take my keys, and drive up his ramped machine. First, he nonchalantly drops into the seat with his dirty clothes, shoes brushing what they will. Next, I had to explain how to start the car. Then, as he's driving up the ramp (carefully, I might add), the front underside (stock height) barely scrapes - I think it was the mudflap things mostly. Nonetheless, the guy actually was pretty nice, and did exactly what he's supposed to do. It just makes me sick to my stomach and I needed to vent.
On that note, I've read threads regarding this topic, but thought I'd ask any suggestions. Basically, I understand that damage could include: tire, rim, then to structural, etc. I've got the 18" Sedan Sport RFT setup. I felt more comfortable letting them inspect it. This is my DD, so I need it repaired, asap. If, for example, they say, I need a new tire and/or rim, how quick do these usually ship if I ordered one from someone on here? I'm asking because I know I can get an entire set on here (< 1000 miles) for what they'd charge for 2. I'll update on what they find. Thanks.

Bet that tire/wheel protection plan is looking mighty good right about now eh? It sucks man. I know that feeling of some stranger getting in your car. They'll probably be pretty quick with the wheel if you need it. Hang in there. It'll all be over soon.

UPDATE:
Just got the call from BMW. Only the tire is damaged. They also recommended the alignment be checked, which I agreed to. Total is $470 for both. That sucks, but oh well, could have been worse.

UPDATE:
It is worse. Repair tech #2 calls today and says that after they removed the rim, and tried to install new tire, etc. the rim appears FUBAR. WTF? Did tech #1 just eyeball the rim and say, yeah, looks good to me? This doesn't add up. Unfortunately, I don't have time to get a slightly used set from someone on here, so I'm forced to get a new one from the dealer. Any thoughts?
