H1N1 is back with avengance

Up untill last week 14 poor souls had died since November. Half completely ealthy people. This past week that number has risen to 27. Again half had no underlying issues.

Not good huh!!!!! 300 in intensive care currently with the dangerous disease.

I had the Vaccine around this time last year and it made me very unwell. Now pondering whether to have this years which has 3 flu types in it which worries me it may make me reAlly unwell.

Is last years vaccine still not effective?!

I read only yesterday the Late Great Enzo Ferrari lost his father And brother to a flu pandemic.

If you have any underlying health problems then yes.

We are having an incredibly busy time at the moment.

Hi thanks for the reply. Can you answer my other Questions also please?!

Also I'm still concerned about the Giulian Barre sydrome associated with flu jabs.

As far as I'm aware the swine flu strain is unchanged, common seasonal flu mutates often hence the need for an annual vaccination.
Saying that and despite having had this year's combined vaccination I still have to wear a rather bulky 3M mask.
I havent a clue about swine flu effecting nerve sheath.

PICU nurse. Last year it was two jabs, swine/seasonal. The arm that had the swine jab was quite uncomfortable. This year's combined was fine with no delayed ill effects.

I misread your question about Guillain Barre, still havent a clue though. The vaccination is inactive if that helps.

I read up on it all last year when swine flu first kicked
off. How did he develop it, also sorry to hear he has
it. When did this happen to him. Is he ok now?!

If I was you Carl I would be more concerned with your mortgage rate increasing.

Unless you are on a fixed rate.

I'm sure you're ok at your age - would they even give it to you? I thought it was reserved for the high-risk groups?

My wife has it at the moment but if you're otherwise in good health you should be able to get rid of it, and treat it, as any other strain of flu.

EDIT - I just re-read that you said half had no underlying issues. Do you have a link to that?

It's all over the Internet mate, yes half had no issues. I
have asthma so in a high risk group. Only thing stopping
me is guillian Barre syndrome.

I had the vaccination last year. Will that help protect me this year?!

Sigh. I just think, ya know.... flu is flu. All this panic and bollocks does my swede in. DO get vaccinated, DO look out for the elderly and infirm, DO take care of yourself if feeling unwell.... but please, the so called 'epidemic' that happened previously (like chicken flu) is no worse than any other infectious disease or virus. A few hundred people have (and sadly always will) die from flu every year.

Fucking news could do a lot of good if they shut the fuck up causing panic and keep their reports focussed and relevant. I eat pig, cow and chicken if I fancy and despite having asthma, I'll be darned if I'm gonna claim a flu jab that a weaker person needs.

Grrr. Not sure what angers me about this, but illnesses have been around, killing hundreds of us every year, since time immemorial. Now we have names for them as though they are fucking pantomime villains. I say bollocks. Pharmaceutical companies are loving this kind of shit, and afterall who do you think 'discovered' the evil that is H1N1 anyway?

I agree. I'm not disputing what dxb has said about healthy people dying of it but my research suggests that they had other issues. My wife has it so I bloody hope it won't affect otherwise healthy people.

Do a search Xenon. Plenty of completely previously healthly people have died under 65. Read the other day about a poor 37 year old chap dying 10 days after his wedding.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you have an underlying health condition.

My little one goes to nursery and she got swine flu last year. I also got ill but didnt feel that bad. I didnt think anything of it until we got our daughter checked because of a persistent temperature, after about a week of calpol. Hers and my symptoms checked out for swine flu. Persistent temperature for over a week, the shits, tiredness, head cold feeling bit of aching etc. But to be honest it wasn't that bad at all. I kept going to work, didn't feel ill enough to stay at home and gave it to a colleague who has asthma who was quite bad with it.

The flu rates this year are in-line with seasonal trends it's just reported wrongly this year but for a reason. The gov. scraped the advertising schemes to save money, the ones that remind people how to stop the spread. So the media are doing a little bit of scaremongering just to try and prevent the spread.

Ask the guys in the hospitals but from what i've read we are around the expected number of cases or in-line with last year.

Your getting Confused mate. Seasonal flu kills elderly unwell people unfortunately.

This current H1N1 has killed young healthy adults. Unlike normal flu.

What I know

A local lad we know who is a bit off a tough cookie. Last Thursday His wife died of this flu Rosena was 38 and no underlying health issues ,Her funeral is next Wed ,

she has left Nick with a broken heart and Dan with no mother .

Life is short and you never know what is round the corner ,So live every day like its your last .

My Brother in law has gone round to see Nick tonight to see what help he can offer but TBH what can you do in this situation.

He was in France with the family skiing when he got the call and it has ruined there skiing holiday.

Being an asthmatic i always have the flu jab.

The risk associated with any flu and asthma is serious enough for me to have my free flu jab.

I had it this year with no ill effects an d the doctor gave it me even though i had a chest infection at the time.

The chance of getting a reaction to the jab is minute Carl. You've got more chance winning the lottery.

You should go and get the flu jab and carry on with your life, stop fretting mate.
