Anyone know any good quality sets for sale that fit a 335d or any recommendations of where to try. Have trawled Ebay, Gumtree etc but nothing suitable. Considering new replicas depending on prices.

A set of reps are only £300/£400 brand new, keeps your car looking reasonable too.

I think there is something in the manual that says that in order to get the best benefit from snow tyres it is useful to actually fit them.

Try bmautosport.co.uk he is local and always has wheels with or without tyres reasonable and a thoroughly nice guy

Thanks guys, I have tried him, he has a set of 158 wheels, wouldn't maybe be my first choice.

Where is good for the reps, can't find much on a Google search.

The ones I looked at on Friday were the M Sport 17" E90 wheel, he wanted £170 for them but three of them were very badly marked, with a refurb needed to keep the car looking decent and importantly keep the wheels sellable once I'm done with them they would be costing £300-£400. Was wanting to spend as little as possible but seems the budget needs to stretch.

Yes. The standard wheel size on an SE version - which has the same brakes as the m-sport, is 17"

I have style 157 fitted to my 335d and they do fit with a few mm clearance over the massive brakes.

I got mine from ebay for £250 with runflats fitted, hoping to get a few pennies back from the RFT's on ebay.

My Nankang SV-2's are doing great so far, had 5 inchs of snow in 36hrs and its not missed a beat. My 19's on summer tyres had no chance in comparison

157s are one of my options so its good to get it confirmed that they fit, looks like a decision between a good set of used 157s or a new set of replicas probably MV3 style, reps probably a bit cheaper and they are brand new. Still searching though for other options.

the mv3 18 reps I saw for £50 stated that they can only be cleaned with soap and water, no acids. Makes me think their paint is rather pants. 18" tyres are more expensive. My Nankang sv-2's....£65 a corner

My 17's do look funny compared to my 19's though. Its only for 3 months I tell myself

It was just a thought as I know the 18" are a tight fit. Can never get the [quite flat] brush in to clean the inside of the rim covered by the calipers!

Are 157 rims staggered? I seem to have wrongly assumed they were 8" all round but the guy thats selling the 157s noted them as staggered.

What about 158s? Are they staggered ?

They look too small. But i'm getting used to them now, especially as they are dirty.

I bought Style 185's off ebay at a bargain price - pretty generic but for the price i paid / winter... i can't complain.

Also got 157's on me 335d coupe to put me winter tyres on. Got a set of 4 for £230 off ebay & spent £100 having em made perfect. Only just fit over the brakes though.

Got Nokian wrg2's on & have transformed the ride so much that I am not looking to put the other alloys back on with the runflats.

Been braking hard on the snow at the end of the cul de sac where we live to test em out & yes they will skid but there's a lot of braking force before the abs takes over.

Never had the runflats in the snow so have nothing to compare it too.

Cost £800 all in but I bet I could sell em next year & get £600 ish

Nokians are a very good tyre

Was going to get them myself but the price went down on the vreds.

I won't be putting my 19s back on with run flats either. They are coming off for some standard rubber.

The ride is a lot better but i can see me wanting to swap out the suspension too.

Situation is about to improve hopefully. Getting new replicas in 17" seems next to impossible so kept researching the used BMW genuine wheel options. Not even many of those for sale but have found a lovely set of 17" 157 wheels just recently refurbed so should be in perfect condition. Not particularly cheap but couldn't face having badly scuffed second hand wheels on the car and this way they should be worth good money when I resell them when I change the car. They should remain immaculate and with good quality Goodyear Ultragrip Performance tyres they should return me a decent sum once I have had my use out of them.

They are in transit to me, might come tomorrow although no doubt the bad weather could cause delays. Can't wait to get them on so I can keep my lovely 19" 230s tucked up in the garage away from all the winter salt.

As a FYI I called up the local BMW dealer:

- Set of steel 16" wheels, hubcaps and Dunlop non-RFTs £700
- Set of steel 16" wheels, hubcaps and RFTs £900 (think they are Pirelli Sottozeros)
- Set of alloy 17" wheels and RFTs £1400-something. Think it was £1430.

They store your summer tyres over winter.

If you got the 17" alloys with RFTs what do you think you could flog them off for on ebay after a season or two?

Haven't seen any sets selling on Ebay with runflats, generally people don't stick with the runflats but just go for standard winters, they are hard enough to get without stipulating runflats.

There are also very rarely sets of wheels with winter tyres already fitted on Ebay so dififcult to judge their value. Assuming wheels in perfect condition and decent quality tyres with say 4 or 5mm tread I would think they are worth £500 ish.

Wheels didn't come in time for the worst snow we have had in years yesterday. They were actually in a Parcelforce van for delivery to me but it couldn't make it due to conditions.

Got all the way nearly home last night, there is a steep hill up to our area that many cars hadn't made, i reckoned there was no hope but just trundled up really steady, plenty of traction control interaction and it made it. But then turning into our cul-de-sac and the deep fresh snow all stopped and that was it, stuck in the middle of the road. Both neighbours were wanting in as well, both decided not to help at all and watched me struggling to push while wife drove and I dug intermintently with spade. Another passer by came to assist and we got moved a few yards, that lets the s**ts of "neighbours" past who promptly went into their house clearly looking to see us struggling ( there will be a repay day sometime soon I hope on them!!! )
Got a few more yards then got stuck right across the cul de sac while trying to get into drive. Another man passer by stopped and helped and eventually we got the car onto the drive and into the garage.

Whole operation took an hour and thanks to the two people who helped or it would still be there. In a way I should have left it blocking the cul de sac so the sods that live near me would have had no access but preferred the car out of the road.

Would loved to have had the winter tyres on, can't see they would have been immensely better but would have been nice to know.

In work today in the X5, wife and kids grounded.

They would have been immensely better. Mine has been everywhere. Even on pure ice it will get traction to pull away without slip. Compacted snow/ice on hills, no problem.

Not had a single slip in traction so far driving normally. Unless i press the throttle a lot to find the limit.

That sounds great, it did surprise me how it got out of deep snow in work carpark and even up the hill ok with traction working great. Then in our cul de sac there is a low speed ramp and that seemed to stop play.

Wife also just phoned, Parcelforce have arrived with the wheels. Haven't a clue when I will get a chance to get tyres fitted though.

My winters were part worns I have bought from Ebay, not sure if that will drastically affect their performance. They have 4 to 5mm tread and are good quality Goodyear Ultragrip tyres.
