Mak's Stage 2 Sound system
I have been waiting for a while for this amplifier and sub to arrive and I can add these to my sound system.
Photos speak for themselves. I have also planned to add 6 channel amplifier to power rears as well. Work is under progress to hunt 6 channel amplifier. I hope weather stays good on Sunday, so I can finish this. Need some wishes.

Hope,
you will not regret going for alpine sound system provided; 1- L7 subs with that kit 2- HU coded to hi-fi And you will be smiling everytime you listen to it. I had a guy who wanted his 1 series coded to Hi-fi and I did it for him. (He had hi-fi kit + DAB added to his E87) 1 month later, I had an e-mail from him thanking me for hi-fi coding and telling me how good it sound after coding. So stay focused and you will like it. Coming back to my kit, I am going for only 1 sub and that is going in the boot. It is going to be loud, but I may add bass remote at later stage to keep it low and nice (if it is too loud).

Respect. That is a proper sub / amp combo
(And I would know quite a bit about the sub )

Cheers bud. I've heard that you had the same sub in your previous car. And now you are planning to add that to E92.

Looking good there mak, I used to have the earlier version of the JL sub in my last car and was very impressed.
Just to clarify, you have coded your HU to HI-FI and changed the under seat subs/speakers - have you amped these? Or you are waiting to get a 6 channel amp? The sub/mono amp is going to be in addition to under seat subs? Looking back at you audio threads I have decided to re code my HU first to Hifi and then source a 6 channel amp to power the speakers/sub. I think I will leave getting a sub till the last stage. I originally thought of going down the ms8 route but the price I cant afford at the moment so trying to keep costs down. I am stuck at the first hurdle as I want to try to do coding myself as I am interested in how it works but wont give up even if it kills me lol |

I have gone for sealed enclosure. Cannot be bothered to build corner enclosure due to lack of space there and enclosure being too small. And I do not want to end up with rubbish sound just to save some space in my boot. Quote:
Here are details; Mak's Stage I upgrade: 1- HU coded to hi-fi 2- Front mids + L7 subs + JBL amp Then I changed 1- L7 subs --> SWS8 2- JBL amp to JL XD 400/4 Impressed with 400/4. Now Mak's Stage II upgrade: 1- JL w7 Sub in Trunk 2- Audison SRx 1D Now as this amp will be visible when trunk is open, so I am thinking to add 6 channel amp (to feed rears) and take out the 4 channel amp. 6 channel amp will be visible same as mono amp. So from complete stealth mode to complete visible amps + sub. And now looking for Audison LRX 6.9 (from Rudz's thread / choice) and I can tell you that is excellent amp. You can set your fronts 3 ways actively with just that amp.

Good kit, what box are you going for?
I've got this box: http://www.wickedcas.com/product.php...&cat=10&page=1 With this sub: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RE-AUDIO-S...item589605405a Powered by a Vibe Lite Bass amp. The rest of my system is Logic 7 with 2 ohm SWS-8s and a Vibe Litebox Stereo 2. The amps could be better but I wanted a stealth setup. |

I currently use them with the Vibe Stereo amp. When I got them first I felt they were underpowered without the boot subwoofer on the L7 amp so bought the vibe amp. A bit later I bought the boot sub and it feels good now.
The sub is more of an SPL one than SQ. I saw good reviews on Talk Audio but the JL sub you have was my first choice, but I went for the cheaper option. For the price it is an awesome subwoofer and I would like to hear what it sounds like with a better matched amplifier. I need to do a bit of sound deadening as there is some rattling from the boot area at the moment. |

Hi Makkan
I have went with the corner loaded sub . All the gurus in the audio section recommend the corner loaded enclosure but your w7 might be to deep.Heres a couple of pics of my enclosure. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1349039761 Last edited by macck; 10-01-2012 at 02:55 PM.. |

No its still fitted lol. Think it is a W3 sounds nice and no rattles. I actually have it turned down going to add a base controller so i can controll it from the front. It takes a bit of messing with the ms8 to get it to play with the jenhert xe200s but nearly there. I want to try that work around were swap the speaker wires on the sub.

RE Audio subs are very well regarded, the RE XXX series is huge in the US, people say they are the cleanest, deepest, hardest hitting subs. I looked for them but couldnt find them in the UK, or atleast not cheap
My stage 2 to commence shortly too very excited |

Hands down the W7 is one of the best subs on the market,
Our company used to be a large JL Audio dealer and had the JL demo car built by us and BBG who were the distributors at the time, it had 2 x 13.5 W7's and was just crazy but the control and SQ was excellent admittedly it had 4 x 1000/1 running just the subs so it should have been. |

Thanks for the information. Looking forward to see updates on your audio thread. Quote:
I bet that system sounds awsome. I have installed mine, and impressed but NOT really. I had 10" X3 in my previous car and they were louder than W7 and sound quality was way better. Quote:
Where are you installing your MB quart? They are slim, ain't they?

No not this one, its part of their old audiophile range. Trying to work out if i will need to cut the car up to free the bass, really dont want to do that though. Will have to have a search and see how others have done it. also need to see how difficult the wiring will be for the Pheonix Gold amp!

Finally installed it.
I have added a switch under the driver's footwell, so I can turn it off when needed. First impression, very loud. Reviewed it again, plenty of rattling from the car. Rear boot lid rattles like hell and number plate holder keep vibrating. Quick Review: I have SWS-8s and after that very little difference that this sub makes in terms of sound quality (SQ). The difference is that 1- My headrest vibrates. 2- I can feel low frequencies in my ribs. 3- Rear view mirror shakes 4- Rear seats are massager seats now. Other than these non-significant difference, I don't feel that it justifies its price tag. It is more sort of loud sound but hardly matches the bass of SWS-8. Hang on! What did I just say? Yes, you read it correctly, however don't get me wrong, as there is no comparison of JL W7 and SWS-8s but the bass from JL W7 is coming from a distance and I can feel SWS-8s closer to me. I have also tweaked the phase and results are better if sound waves are coming at 180 degress and they are more in phase with SWS-8s and mids. I feel the presense of JL W7, if I am sitting in the rear cabin or by punchy feeling behind my ribs. Well, JL W7 is lost in the trunk. If there was a way of opening the sub into cabin, that would justify its presence. About JL products; On a quick comparison, JL products are like apple products. They are well known, smartly designed, overly priced and you have to use their other products. Why on earth are your making a 3ohm sub??? So people can rely on your amps to have proper matching of watts. And if this sub requires any repairing, then where will one find official repairer in UK? I guess that is too much of writing and time for a quick video.
