A lease deal thread a great idea, will be looking for a new daily driver soon and would like something interesting.

Lease deal thread also a great plan from me, ask a mod to make it a sticky though to keep it easy to find.

Love the new M5 but felt a little "soft" when i drove my mates. Guess you are just shielded from all the noise and the sense of speed is missing. Could see me losing my license very quickly in one!

His has done just over 3000 miles and been back to BMW 3 times already.

Could you not lease an M3 for quite a bit less, certainly the deposit would be much less.

Yep, M5 no good for me.

I need to be going more raw, noisy, less comfortable - not the other way....

Although we need a new family wagon, so a lease on that would be good.

They are very rapid but you dont seem to be going that fast. Suprisingly, not as fast as i thought. The 335 on a short burst will give it a run for its money.

Well a 335i with a JB4 anyway.

In terms of "feel of acceleration" perhaps.

In a side by side race - not a chance. #YouTube - Just watch them destroy e60 m5s if you need proof...

This M5 deal is a crazy offer as I seriously enquired about a used (1 month old, 100 mile!) M6 this week which was up for £80k (so £20k under list).

£8k deposit....£1600pm!! Bonkers. Sytner LEICESTER didn't even try to do a deal....they just let me walk out. Even more bonkers!

Yeh thats what i mean Phil, it does not feel as fast. Quick glance at the heads up and you soon realise just how rapidly you are moving. Just does not feel as quick.

That's why I posted it, I remember you saying how much it was per month which makes this look very cheap..

It is very quick, handles suprisingly well for a big car as well. Driven it for about 150 miles but, still cant help but feel its slightly detached as a drivers car. Maybe that's just me.

The fact the M5 plays fake engine noises through the hifi to make it sound good is a fail for me i'm afraid

Noisy interiors

Road noise bad
wind noise bad
tyre noise bad
engine induction and exhaust noise good

You either have a car that wafts along, or you have one with great engine noise and lots of tyre 'thrumm' and road noise.

The problem is; noise is noise....let one in and you let them all in. Keep some out and you keep all out.

Only way to select the noise you want and not all the others is the way BMW engineers have done it. Its not fake engine noise....its real, but what they've done is to find a way to let the desirable noise in, without all the undesirable noise.

Like air conditioning or heating really. Let outside air in, but adjust its temperature and flow rate to make it comfortable.

Is it actual engine noise though? I thought it was noise created by a sound symposer located in the boot which plays the sound through the stereo system. I can't find exact details but it does seem like that would mean its some kind of electronic reproduction of actual engine noise. Unlike the old sound generator tube which simply used a pipe from the air box directly into the cabin to amplify the sound of throttle bodies devouring the atmosphere.

My take is that I couldn't give a toss if the noise is real or fake as long as it sounds good.

The 991 has the same thing, its weird and not something that I particularly like. However combine it with the sports exhaust and there is no denying that it sounds great.

Gizze, that sounds good - don't suppose you have a link by any chance? I'm thinking of changing to something "wafty" in my old age.

GAP Insurance etc.

No doubt this is an absolutely cracking deal. Very tempting

Just bear in mind, early trade-in will not be an option, due to high negative equity and purchase will also not make sense, so hand back at the end of the agreement is the only option that's financially viable. That's when mileage charges come in. Mis-calculate and you could be in for a fairly large bill....depending on the per-mile rate and the actual mileage obviously.
Often increasing the PCP mileage is more cost effective than going over the agreed mileage and paying excess, so do the calculations.

Also 'return to invoice' GAP insurance is an absolute must on a deal like this as theft or a write-off at any stage would leave you with massively higher outstanding finance vs. the car's insurance value.

Sounds very wise Steve. Can such a policy be bought independently, any idea of cost (on say a £28k Merc SLK)?

OK, so let's say I get personal contract hire over two years and I go for a 10,000 miles per annum deal. I'm 100% confident I'll do less than that anyway (I've done 10000 miles in three years in the 335i). All of this includes VAT since I'm not self employed.

So (and apologies if this is a silly question); the up front deposit on, say, a 6 + 23 deal. Have I missed something, or is this not really a deposit in the normal sense of the word? If I go for a 6 + 23 deal @ £270 per month, it just means I pay them 6 x £270 = £1620 on day one, then another 23 payments of £270 (i.e. another £6210, total over two years £7830)? I don't get my "deposit" back, right?

Finally, after two years, I hand back the keys [£7830 poorer], the car is taken away, and I'm a pedestrian again, correct? Or is it less simple than that? I've seen such a deal on a Merc SLK 250 CDi and I'm tempted.

Sorry for the "Alexander Dumb-Ass" questions.

Mike.

You've got it Mike. You do not get your deposit back, to all intents and purposes it is like having a long term rental car, you have absolutely no claim on it at all and neither is there any option to buy it at any stage. You do not even get the V5, the contract hire company is the named keeper. The Gap cover for my 640d was bought via the interner and was less than £100 which covered me for up to £15000 of cover ( I think they are the figures anyway).
