Aftermarket rims wheel alignment? :(
hey all.
short version: aftermarket wheels/spacers, whats a reliable place that can align them and mount them properly? details: so i recently purchased a pair of 18" tsw nurburings. i had them mounted with some non-rft eagle f1's at my local goodyear, along with spacers for the rear. problems: rear wheels wobble, steering wheel shakes violently at 40-60mph. steering wheel is at a 15degree angle to the right, when the car moves straight. okay. I took the car in to pace bmw in port chester to see what they could do. the advisor i spoke with, when i dropped the car off, told me they probably couldn't do the alignment because the aftermarket rims don't have the 5 pin holes that bmw wheels use for their alignment machine. he did tell me that they have another alignment method (not as accurate), but still able to do it. i got a call from a different service advisor yesterday saying my car was ready and i could pick it up today. unfortunately, he said they were unable to do the alignment and that the problems were due to non-centered mounting of the wheels to the hub. not a very detailed description on his part.. which problems? so, at this point i'm clueless as to where to take my car to get this alignment done? i'm sure you guys with aftermarket wheels have gotten alignments. where can you recommend that everything (spacers, wheels tires) will be installed and aligned properly? thanks so much in advance. what a headache |

I have the same problem with my steering as well. I just feel a slight vibration but it's at 40 to 60 as well. Did you get the hub centric rings for your wheels. You need to get those installed ASAP.

it's not an alignment issue. if you didn't have this issue with your stock wheels, then the problem is the wheels or spacers. an alignment isn't needed to get aftermarket wheels to fit right.
either get the wheels rebalanced or make sure the wheels/spacers are hubcentric. it may also be the case that the wheels are not sitting flush due to the lip on the spacer - this sometimes happens with 10mm or less. |
