Winter Tire recommendations for Audi Quattro

My other car is a 99 1.8tq. I need some winter tires for it. OEM 16in wheels. I always went with Blizzak's but they are just too expensive now. I want something cheap but good. Any suggestions?

Cool. Thanks CirriuSR22. Do you have any personal experience with these? I like the price on these. Exactly where I want to be.

How bad are the winters north of Boston/how much driving do you typically do and where? I spent some years in Boston and with quattro I would think you would be able to get by with some good all season snows (I'd recommend Extreme Contact DWS).

Had a TT for sometime and was able to get by on whatever the factory tires were. Mind you the TT doesn't even have legit quattro (haldex shared with the R32) and I was perfectly fine.. Driving cautiously obviously. I would also look into any used tire options.. Big fan of Nokians myself.. If you can find a set of used Nokian winter tires I'm sure you will be very pleased.

Even the least inexpensive studless winter tire will give you far superior grip over all season tires.

General makes a good winter tire.

This car used to be mine. I gave it to my 20 year old last winter. It had snow tires on it and he still cracked up the front bumper and fogs. I need snows, definitely. He doesn't do much highway. I have another set of 18's for the summer so these are dedicated winter wheels.

The Generals get extremely good ratings by ADAC - the German version of AAA

I have not used the General Altimax Arctics, but I've read a lot of really great reviews. They are supposed to be WAY better than what used to be the inexpensive choice, the Firestone Winterforce.

The Generals are actually a rebranded Gislaved Nord-Frost 3. Gislaved is a Swedish tire company ( now owned by Continental, just like General) that can be compared with Nokian.

I agree. Assuming the OP is using size 205/55R16 this is the best value oriented winter tire in this size. Some guys here run them and like them as well.
