Max ECU flash
So I have a Cobb tune for my 335i and heard that I can only flash the ECU 50 times - after that I have to replace the entire ECU. I called Cobb to verify and they said they've flashed their cars hundreds of times without issues. Anyone heard of this here?

+1 the whole point of the AP is that there is no limit to how many times you can flash the DME, updates (firmware/maps) are free, and if you mod your car you can just download the corresponding maps (still for free). The only thing that costs you additional money (related to the tune) is if you want custom, ATP maps (upgrade your turbos, race maps, meth maps, etc).
Buy the AP directly from COBB (and I'm sure a couple other vendors) and you get a 30-day trial period. If you don't like it, they'll fully reimburse you -- There's also NO reason to go to a shop to buy/install your COBB tune. |

theoretically there is a hardware limit to how many times you can flash an ECU but it is beyond the number you would typically hit during the lifetime of your car. There is definitely a flash counter though which may or may not be altered with Cobb. I suspect the counter does not get incremented but Ill leave that to Cobb to confirm.

When they make a back up of your stock map to the accessport it also takes the number of the flash with it. When you unmarry the AP and put the stock map back it overwrites the indicator as well. Basically if your stock map was flash 5 you could run it up to flash 200, then when the stock map is reloaded it would be overwritten as flash 5 again. This is how it works on other platforms so I assume it is the same.

^+1. I believe Rob@Cobb mentioned they leave the flash counter alone. It should stay the same once uninstalled...
