Best Buy Audio Installation
Has anyone had any experiences with the Best Buy installation crew? I would like to get a simple amp and sub install done in my E90. Yay or Nay?
Thanks All, youngcaseho |

Not a chance I would let those monkey's install anything. Find a private shop with a good reputation for doing high end cars.

yeahh i actually got 2 mtx 10s and an amp installed by futureshop and let me tell you i will never go to them again to get anything installed... I went to them before doing any research and now i really regret it lol.. The wiring they did was cheaply done and the amp control they installed in the front keeps coming off and have had to replace it twice already. It actually came off today and got caught in my door and broke in half so now i have to go back. Although i am getting nice clean bass i would not trust them again.. Im going to be getting a video deck installed soon and i will not go to them forsure..

Damn I got my sub/amp/LOC installed at Best Buy. They did a good job with everything. I called about 6 different Best Buys in my area before I got someone who said they knew what they were doing. Some of the Best Buys wanted to charge me $300 even though their website says less. I finally found one store 20 minutes away that said they would do it for the price listed (I think about 80?). The guy who installed it had lots of experience. But generally, I wouldn't trust any simple Best Buy employee.

I had a iPod interface installed at BB for my old Accord. I first had to convince them that it was designed my car (which it was) because they had failed to do the install with this product on other accords. They got it to work, but I later figured out that they hooked it up incorrectly because it drained the battery. If I did not drive the car once a week it would not start. I put a new battery in it and traded it in. Never go to Best Buy for an install, especially with a BMW.

LOL most people are right. I'm an installer at bestbuy and I can say only a small percentage of us know what we are doing. Bestbuy seems to like to pick up thug teens off the street who's only experience in audio is stealing it. A lot of them do a crap job because it's not their car so they don't really care. I always ask how the customer wants it done and make sure they are satisfied with the job before i even let them get back into their car. But that's with anyplace make sure you like it before you drive off.

Haha...does that mean that 5 out of the 6 said they did not know what they were doing? And that not knowing what they were doing would cost you $300.00?

No F'ing way I would let anyone from BB touch any of my vehicles.
Do a little research and you and a buddy can tackle it easily. Just take your time, and be neat about it. |

Yeah,
I wouldnt do it either. Years ago I let MobileOne here in the east Houston area put in an alarm in my wifes Sequoia. I was referenced to that place by a friend. When you walk in you see all these plaques on the wall and all these training certificates from auto mfr's, its all bullshit, for the most part. These people will never treat your vehicle like their own. They cracked all the screw covers (didnt use the little groove for inserting a small screwdriver) they eventually all fell off. Left the tailgate unmonitored from the newly installed security system (found that out later at home, when i forgot to unlock it, just by habit, and the damn thing opened up) they said "we sold you a stock package for monitoring 4 doors, a tailgate is extra" My wife bitched and got it wired up. They didnt bother going through the factory wire looms and made extra holes to run wires to the tailgate and the doors, replaced the solenoids in the passenger doors twice, the dash gauges did not work, lastly the headlights would not come on. Till this day there is a blue wire that keeps poking out from the side paneling that gets sucked up by the vaccuum occasionally. You get what you pay for, if you love your car, any car, do it yourself or pay extra to get it done properly at a high-end car audio shop. BB installation department seems to always have teenagers that are incompetent, and tear shit up while doing it. I dont think they are ALL like that, no, probably not. Some have good employees working there. Just my opinion..... |

I worked for bby and a bby sub for some time. They are a basic and cheap option, for cheap cars.
They are not pro's. They are not careful. They want to get the stuff into your car as fast as possible, using labour which is as cheap as possible, and with materials which cost the least. If you care about your car, learn to do it yourself (not that hard), or pay to do it right. |

I was an installer for Circuit City during college for about 5 years. The senior guys at our shop took lots of pride in our work and we did excellent work. Also our manager stressed the importance of doing a good job, gaining the customer's trust, and having them come back (at least the first one..).
Unfortunately, it's not like this at every shop. Our shop down the street had a bunch of inexperienced techs and we always had to fix their install jobs... Best Buy was an absolute joke down the street - I picked up parts from the tech and the guy decided vacuuming his truck was more important than working on customer's cars (and many customers came to our shop telling us how bad of an experience they had there..). You really have to do your homework and make sure you get a good tech working on your car. Ask around, speak to the manager. Pros: - Lifetime install warranty - General no issues replacing items if they break it - Large network to address issues from the install work Cons: - Hit or miss talent on the tech performing the install
