What's the max KM you would buy a used 335i with?
Hi Guys,
Just wondering what the max number of km's you'd buy a used 335i with? There's a few 07's going cheaply with around 100k km but not sure how reliable these are. Do you think it's better paying $15-20k more for a 2010/2011 with a N55 and smaller kms? Thanks |

I prefer low km cars also and don't mind paying a little more for that. My 325i that I just bought has only 39K on it (2009 model) which was one of the lowest in the country. |

Yeah, I thought around 50k km would be my max too but I read in other forums that people said 100k km is nothing but this is a BMW... not a Toyota/Honda lol.
Would it be better to buy an earlier model say 2006/2007 with 30K on it or a 2010 with 80k? if they're the same price. |

It really depends how well the car is maintained. If you're not sure of the condition of the car, get it checked by a mechanic before you buy. If it's well maintained, then you will spend less on initial repairs.
For all you know it might be genuine highway KMs. |

first thing i usually look at is the log books and dates of service. and i find it better if actually some OEM parts been changed and replaced if it has high kms... such as sparks, coilpacks, lpfp, hpfp and stuff like that. then you know its fresh kinda oh and higher the kms gonna be more things to replace even if its a bmw. just wear and tear i guess. |

Would it be easy for a mechanic to see if they're genuine KM's or if any problems would arise in the future?
I don't think we have a specialist BMW independent here but there's a few all round euro specific shops. |

I got my 09 335i with 56k on the clock from WA car was originally from VIC
Checked service history etc and rang the service centre to confirm what was done at BMW Vic. And I found out that it is against privacy laws to give out that sort of information in terms of specifics, unless it was still under BMW warrenty. All they can say was "Yes the car has been serviced here on x date" Thats it. I basically wanted to know if fuel injectors have been replace the common maintenance issues us guys have. Found it kinda odd that a potential buyer wants to know if the car has been maintained before purchase and the information can't be provided by the service centre |

I bought a 07 with 80k km on it, now 109k
Had jb4 since I bought it and have only had to do oil filter housing as a problem but the rest as maintenance, done spark plugs, coils water pump, thermostat as maintenance. and installed RB's for fun But lower ks if you can afford but just be aware you will be up for $2k of maintenance if you buy a 100km car. |

low kilometres is nice, but doesn't guarantee that it will be more reliable than a 335i with 80-100k kays.
I know of a early gen 335i which had very low kays (in the 20's by memory) and he lunched his engine... |

I bought mine with 35,000ks and I've only had the waterpump issue for now tbh i think its just luck of the draw, but the n54 as a whole is a good engine

Tell tale signs of genuine highway Ks are chip marks on the bonnet. Low interior wear and tear as genuine highway Ks are always more time driving on the road rather than start stop getting in and getting out which will generate higher wear and tear. One more sign that I think is crucial is that when you see a car that has a lot of gutter rash it means that the driver is either a bad driver which they will just drive into any pothole or if there is not gutter rash generally means that the driver is someone who is either a good driver which means one that will always try to avoid pothole which means the car would most probably be in better condition.
But it all depends on the draw like someone said. At the end of the day when u talk to the seller you will generally have an idea of the the kind of driver and owner that the seller is, Whether he/she is the type who just drive the car like an A to B or the kind that takes care of the car and treats it like a baby!

Bought my '06 335i from a NSW dealership with 44,000 kms. Personally, I would never go over 60,000 kms.
I don't mind paying the extra $10k for a lower mileage vehicle. |

Thanks Peter! How does yours have so little KM - I'd love to get it but I'm not buying until next year unfortunately (promised I'd keep the IS for at least 2 years haha).
Has anyone tested the Audi A5 as well - I'm currently tossing up between the two. |

I drive a IS250 now too!! going to be moving to a 335i E92 this month/next month and will update once I have but for now.
I don't mind a higher mileage car as long as it has the proper work done at the proper times, then it's just wear and tear really and also resale value I guess. Anyway, Audi's... Here's my story. Went car shopping at the end of last year and was mainly looking for E92's. Test drove a few 2011 325i E92's and my heart was telling me to get it! But I knew the 4 series was coming out and the 2013 F30 328i M Sport was about the same price. Then I nearly bought a 2014 A4 S line 2.0T but cancelled the deposit straight away when I saw a F30 328i M Sport at another dealership for the same price but that deal fell through, so I'm still in my IS250 for till now! haha I only liked the A4 because when I took it for a drive it was nice, and the new car warranty, the price I could get it for and the servicing/corporate deal I could've got with it. But my heart wasn't so convinced. To me, the Audi's didnt have the same "feeling" while I was driving as the BMW did. I know this is purely my opinion and I am only 21 so I have not driven that many cars in my life either, but the feeling that the E92 have me can not be replaced, even my old DC2 ITR which I thought gave me the best "feeling" Kind of glad I didn't get any of those cars, cos now I'm gonna get a 335i (told myself if I'm still thinking about E92's in 6 months time I'm gonna buy one, if I get over them then I won't) HAHA |

Id happily buy a high KM 335 for the right price. The engine itself is strong just needs the usual culprits replaced:
- Oil filter housing - Spark Plugs - Coil Packs - HPFP - Waterpump - Vacuum hoses add in a carbon clean for good measure and it'll be like new. |
