Changing a battery

I think my battery is on its way out. It's a bmw battery no idea how old - could be the original from 2006

It wouldn't start after moving my seats around whilst cleaning and it sounds like it is cranking slowly

I went to kwik-fit who entered (570cca battery) and that came back at 58% and 'good'

After a bit of googling my understanding is:

If i use the same specs I need to tell the car it is a new battery otherwise it wont charge correctly.

If I use a different capacity then I need to tell car its a different spec battery and also tell it its a new battery.

Its a e92 2006 n52k 325i, could anyone tell me what cable and software I need to code it? Is it better to just replace with the same specs assuming bmw knew best when they chose the battery (70Ah 570A 120RC 570CCA)?

i wouldn't just get a cable and software and DIY.

best thing you can do is just take it to a garage to get it changed. AGM battery would be good I think. specialist in wolves will charge you around £30 to fit and code it and they can tell you which one to buy

You need to tell the car the battery has been replaced, so it can recalibrate its charging system. As part of that procedure, you select the capacity.

You can either get yourself the Carly app, which has a battery change mode, and is probably the simplest way, but the apps a bit expensive, and they charge you extra money for enabling the battery change part, which is a bit wanky IMO. You also need to buy a bluetooth OBD adaptor as well.

Other option is to get a USB lead like this:

Which comes with a lead and all the software you need for diagnostics and coding as well as reprogramming the battery. Its a bit of a learning curve though, can be somewhat complicated if you've never done anything like that before. It is cheaper though compared with carly, and gives you the hardware to do any other diagnostics and coding in the future.

£30 is a good price a specialist in birmingham wanted £60 but I think the cable will be useful for reading any future errors that car throws up.

Yep thats the one you need, and the software is pretty decent with the bcables lead, comes with an automatic installer thing that works pretty well.
