Sure he is slower than me in a straight lime but is that thing nice to drive.

Economics is the only reason for my 335 and I will try to get closer to the M3 in terms of handling but probably never get there.

OP is buying in America so it's not like an M3 that costs 150,000 USD in Egypt or something like that.

You can't argue with an 8400RPM V8.

335

You can make it your own and working on it makes it more "personal" in my opinion.

I think the M3 would be the better investment. Leave it stock and enjoy it. M cars usually keep their value really well.

If you get the 335 and mod the heck out of it, chances are you are going to get HOSED when it comes time to sell it, or trade it in....

sorry, thats just how us old folks think...

Also, it's not like you can't take out a tune before you go in for service

We're not talking about heavily modding a 335. Probably a simple tune and cold air intake.

You do realize the 335 is lighter than the m3 with a more equal weight distribution?

I don't know why you keep mentioning "heavily modded" either. A 335i with a simple tune and mix of E85 will destroy an M3 in the straights. This is where it matters in a DD, not to mention fuel economy. I, personally, wouldn't want a harsh suspension driven daily.

An M3 will always be an m3, but for $1000 in performance mods, my little 335i is practically a high 11sec car. I don't track my car, so for around town and 1/4 mile days, my 335 would most likely keep me happier than an m3. If I didn't have a modded n54 I would still be drooling over the e92 m3.

Look at it this way, is someone asked you what kind of car you drive, would you rather say 335i or M3? IMO M3 will hold a lot more value. As a consumer wouldn't you rather have full satisfaction after buying an m3 knowing you have the best bmw has to offer for a 3 series as opposed to buying a 335i and then having the "what would it be like" if you actually bought it. Anyways, the best way to find out is a test drive.

This sounds pretty shallow, as most BMW drivers are today. There was a day when BMW's were an enthusiasts car

Just for the record. As someone that has owned multiple M3's. They do not hold value any better than any other BMW. They depreciate by roughly the same percentage. The only M3 that has risen in value over the last few years is the E30. They made about 14,000 cars over the whole production run *AND* they were hand built, both bodies and engines.

The other three series of M3, E36, E46 and E9X ave all dropped in value just like all the rest of the BMW's out there. THe last M5 dropped in value like a brick. A buddy of mine got one two years old for 50% of what it was new.

A car is not an investment, and drops in value. Buy the one you like.
I bought a 335i this time instead of an M3 because I use it as a daily driver and the new M3 didn't strike me as something I want to drive 100 miles a day in the commute. Now that would be a waste. So the 335 will get mild performance mods and a bunch of cosmetic mods.

Buy what you like.

first of all what everyone is forgetting is that the between the two the m3 has much better drag times with mods that the 335i. The m3 is built for the track but is also great for the street. I own a 335i and have driven an m3. 335i's especially mine have boatloads more torque and power but at the end of the day you have a twin turbo 3.0l I6 prone to problems where as the m3 is a extremely high revving v8 and is a lot more of a drivers car. But don't take my word for it the sound alone of an m3 converted me

I think a lot of people forget that there is a lot more to a car than how fast it can go in a straight line.
