hey all
my 335d had recently started smoking from its exhaust after being sat idling for few minutes, no smoke at start or driving along though, it seemed to be a whiteish color, however i thought id try get a vid today to show you but it didnt smoke once, even filled with v power and the fume smell has lessed alot. is it something i should be worried about? iv got car in for mot on monday and due a service, i did ask them to have a look but im concerned if it didnt happen today after a run then it may not happen when they have a look.

Do you regularly change your engine oil?

no, its due a service now though, did check the oil this morning to see if burning any and noticed it was quite blackish color but was no lower than wen i last checked it.

Whitesh in color is typically just water vapor, normal for all engines. Was it a bit cooler today than it's been in a while? This will make the water vapor more visible. Also with a diesel, the oil will get very black in just a few miles after it has been changed. Completely normal.

no the weather has been quite warm today, though some days it was cooler. but it wasnt a small amount of smoke, it was plainly visable and seem to give a bigger puff as u pull off but then gone as your driving.

the guy who supplied my non-dpf downpipe has suggested the engine coolant valve might be stuck..

What color is smoke?

Coolant leak into exhaust looks like. Could be EGR cooler.
