as for right now they are just tucked away, once i get the error canceler i'll mount it up real pretty. the kit comes with some mounting brackets, screws, and zipties, so you can pretty much fit it wherever you please

on another note, if anyone is having trouble getting the euro bulb holders let me know, my friend can get them real quick, much quicker than shipping from europe. if theres enough interest maybe i can just pick up a huge batch and sell them to members

I'm considering installing these on my '06 325i as well; what error canceler did you end up buying?

What type of xenon bulb does it use? I'm leaning toward the 6000k, but may want to change them out for 4300k if I prefer that look. Is the bulb readily available?

How much are the euro bulb holders?

How are aiming issues with the xenon? As it doesn't have adaptive ride height control, I'm concerned about blinding oncoming drivers.

Thanks!

i believe its a d1s bulb, it comes pre installed based on the options you select at checkout. absolutely get the 6000k, its pure white, no purple at all despite what it says on jlevisw.com, but brighter than the 4300k. def makes you stand out a bit more. Euro bulb holders are about 25 bucks for the pair, no shipping for me because i picked them up at my friends body shop.

the aim is perfect too, the drivers side is angled slightly lower as it should be, to avoid blinding incoming drivers, and the passenger is slightly raised which helps see streetsigns, etc.

once it gets dark i'll take some pics of the cutoff. very clean tho

FYI they are H7 HIDs that are installed in these kits. D1S is for OE Xenons.

6000k is NOT brighter than 4300k. 6000k also happens to be illegal in every state of the union.

not to say its that much brighter cuz i know the color temp is just color, but it has a much whiter output rather than the yellowy hue of 4300, which def makes it seem wayyy brighter and more natural. similar to white halogen bulbs effect. besides i drove 4300k for 3 years on e46, 2 seconds behind the 6000k and the difference is noticeable immediately. as for being illegal id love to see someone get pulled over and ticketed for 6000k lights, a cop would never even know the difference

Not only does the 6kk reduce your vision, it also dazzles oncoming traffic more.

Unfortunately, with comments like yours, you just went from "good DIY - he tried to get as legal as possible" to "another poser who wants to look cool."

From a study here

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ght_color.html

"Consistent with prior studies, the results show that discomfort glare ratings increase as chromaticity moves toward the blue range. No evidence was observed that target detection is enhanced with blue headlamps for either peripherally viewed or centrally viewed targets.
However, when deeply colored light sources (beyond the range of nominal white that headlamps are required to meet) were introduced into the detection task, differences in spectral sensitivity were observed in the near-periphery."

ok i think that is a bit uncalled for - i'm not trying to be illegal here, the reason i want xenons is because halogens provide NO light - do you think its safer trying to drive with those shit orange halogen headlights? im better off strapping two cell phones to my bumper. especially dangerous around here where i see deer driving home every night. i'm glad you are concerned for my eye strain, but i chose this color because i wanted it to be white, not yellow not purple not blue but WHITE which is exactly what color a bmw should have. i resent that 'poser who wants to look cool' shit cuz thats not the case at all, i believe that a BMW should only be modded to look like it could have rolled off the factory line.

and i'm sorry but 'obnoxious old fart' doesnt do you justice stop trashing my thread. didnt your mother ever tell you? if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all

Thanks

I actually found the same item on eBay and was planning on pulling the trigger soon. I don't really care about errors either as I'll probably be doing a reflash to clear another bulb-out error I have now. When you finally get them, let me know if those cancelers solve the flickering. If so, I'm in for a set of these!

i just did a bit of research and it seems that 6000k and 8000k are legal as long as they are used through a projector lens. makes perfect sense considering the projector gives the lights a clean cutoff line, which is below oncoming traffic driver's eyes

found it off google so don't quote me on anything or tell the officer 'sandman said its ok on his post" if you get pulled over

Perhaps I was a bit harsh but your adamant belief that a blue tint produces more light is just plain wrong and puts you into the "I didn't do my research properly" category.

FMVSS 108 requires a "white" light source complying with "SAE standards." While "white" is not specifically defined, most experts put it in the 4500k range (including those in the tests linked above.) Accordingly, the 4300k used by every car manufacturer is basically spot on.

Why would a car manufacturer use a 4300k bulb if a 6000k would be be better? They cost the same amount.

The reason is quite simple - anything over 4500k decreases light output and increases glare.

Finally, color temp of a lamp has nothing to do with housing design. A 6000k bulb designed for, and used in, a projector housing, is just as bad as a 6000k bulb used in a halogen housing.

You did a great job on your DIY and I applaud your efforts to get a "near legal" modification (technically, your mod, regardless of lamp, is still illegal) but you have blown it by the bulb you are using.

A few thoughts for everyone to consider:
