Few questions;
1- Should I be using 633 or 644?
2- One is business phone prep and one is ordinary if I am correct. what is the difference b/w these?
3- Why do one should disconnect telematics?
4- With 644, how does bluetooth work if telematics is off?

Sorry, trying to get my head around this.

On a good side note, I have coded my car last night for the CIC with SSD files. It is showing the BMW connected drive in the menu. Since controller is not connected, so could not check things in detail.

Thanks.
1 I believe 644 is the proper one. Enhanced BT etc as far as I understood
2 I think it might influence the options within office and maybe other functionality, but I could be wrong for both 1 & 2.. mixed info, even my dealer could not figure it out completely...

3 - Dont'know :-) The thing within this thread is about the aspect of two types of combox modules, the media version and the telematics. Physicaly the main difference is TCU capabilities and some extra wires. In this thread we mentioned telematics because I had connected power to pin 2, pin 2 is the powersource for telematics, pin 1 for media boxes. No problem to connect both, but on a media box this results results in a "fake/incorrect" reporting of the ecall (telematics) ecu, while my box has not the connectors/function...

4 No relation, no impact.. not the right question ;-) see point 3

Thanks.

I am discussing it to find a logic, difference and rationale of going for one over the other.

I have worked on E92, which had combox telematics. He had only pin 2 as the source of power. And I read on other thread that few people had issues when they connected the power source to pin 1, but as soon as they connected to pin 2, all went smooth.

I have a hunch feeling that;

1- 633 is connected to combox telematics and give you all the options on the CIC.

2- 644 works with the combox, but without using telematics and has less options.

I may be wrong, but I will strive to find out the answer of this.

Thanks.

Read this about office and telephones (Iphone in this case, but good info for understanding the concept)

You have to code your VIN to the Combox for BT to work reliably..

The bin file updates the combox, but is mainly for phone compatibility..
If you have access to an ICOM, no harm in flashing the Combox software..

Option 633 is US specific..
644 is Enhanced BT and also gives you A2DP, although I am not fully convinced on it..

ECALL (telematics) is just that.. BMW Assist.. (option 612) It is currently very hard to transfer your assist account over to the Combox, (retrofit) hence it is kinda useless other than beeping SOS/module error.

Every other option will be available as in Combox media.

Flash for update or to flash for VIN update? The last could be done with your file example earlier in this thread if i'm correct?!

While I enabled tethering I do not have the Internet option, 633 vs 644 related? (Going to set it to 644 in the next hour.... )

Ok, so I have added 644 and took out 633.
Disconnected pin 2 from combox and set date to #1114
Recoded the combox and CIC

Outcome:

- Ecall error is gone
- My email and text messages are now pushed to Idrive
- No browser/internet within Office or connected drive
- My car lights stay on after closing the car
- Car alarm is not working after closing the doors
- I need to "double" close the car doors (with remote) to shut off the lights
- My rear PDC sensor sounds distorted, front is producing normal sound

Any idea?

For internet, you have to add option 614, pair a phone via Bluetooth, and activate BT tethering. THEN change COB_ONLINE_BROWSER to beide_aktiv in the CIC trc..

No idea about car lights and Car alarm..
No idea on PDC either :-(

Thx! I will add 614 etc...

It happened after I changed the car to 2014 and recoded the complete car.
I was thinking about:

- Setting the car back to 09, recode all
- Set the car to 2014, recode CAS, NFRM CIC and Media...

Good idea?

Not a bad idea...

With retrofits, usually start with coding only individual modules, note what changes, and then code the whole car..

give it a try, you wont be messing up any worse..

I did the following and it seems to work:

- Set my FA to #0909
- Executed a FA_Write on CAS and NFRM
- Recoded complete car
- Set my FA to #1114
- Executed a FA_Write on CAS and NFRM
- Recoded CIC and MEDIA

Now all is working again. Recoding the NFRM with 0909 did the job.
So I should not recode my CAS/NFRM with 1114, it results in incorrect outcome.

I will do some TRC comparisons on the NFRM to see what is really causing the problems.

Thanks again!

My combox is in. All working without changing the VIN.

The only issues, I am having is no internet. I am not sure if its to do with VIN, or to do with iphone 4s not being able to provide tethering.

Any pointers?

My CIC with 633 gives A2DP as well.

I need to check what else do I get with 644?

The phone has to provide tethering, else no internet.. :-(

The VIN is relevant for BMW Online..
The 4s should be able to tether.. Is it a carrier restriction?

Thanks mate.
Ok here is my comparison b.w 633 vs 644

With 633, there are two additional lines under Connected drive
BMW online
Internet

With 644, these lines are missing.

VO has been same except the difference of 633 / 644. Other than that, I could not connect the A2DP with 633, and did not had time to try that 644.

I am not sure how rismos' e-mail and text messages are pushed to CIC with 644. When I used 644, there was nothing under the office or under the phone for text messages or e-mails.

I guess I need to update my Combox first.

Thanks.

Please share your VO. Also check the software version of your CIC and COmbox and share this.
How did you get the combox?

I will share the VO as atm I am in the office.

I am not sure how to check the software of CIC.
Its CIC.16 on Ncs expert.

For Combox, I have updated it last night and following is the version (latest AFAIK)
Multimedia: MX-003.005.004
Telephone: TX-003.005.006

As far as pushing the e-mails and text message to CIC, is that something which only blackberry can do?

I have iphone 4s and its not pushing e-mails / messages to CIC with 633 or 644.

You have to lock your iphone and set for messages and emails to show them on lock screen, only then they will be pushed to CIC.
Also check if you have set office enabled on your BT profile of the phone. Check the link I provided before. All info is in that thread.

Rismo what is the version of your CIC?

I have followed what you said, but it does not push the e-mails / text to CIC with 633 or 644.
Also I do not have A2DP on both of those. I am not sure if its to do with BT antenna or something else. Options shows it when you click on the connect phones but its grayed out.

Thanks.
