I just did this mod exactly as the host posted. Thanks.
Sounds awesom and noticed response better. When I checked the stock box, the filter is blocked by the bump of the box bottom, only half of the filter area can pass air, what a shit design. |

Okay so everyone who is skeptical about doing this don't be! I did this yesterday purchased two black spectre filters from autozone. Then went to home deport got a 3-2 inch rubber adapter with tightening grommets then purchased a 2 foot black 2 inch PVC pipe. Cut the rear pipe to 5 inches and the front to 2 inches. Tighten the clamps made eveything fit flush then drove it. All I can say is wow! The turbo spool is addlicting and once you let off the throttle you hear the stock bov. Def worth the 68 dollar total i spent for everything and it looks great. Performance wise feels about the same as stock with maybe a little less turbo lag. 100% worth the investment though

Probably not possible due to mass air flow sensor being mounted on stock airbox.. I had 330i before that and ended up buying AFE intake..

DO NOT use pvc for this, pvc will get hot and start to deform, it cannot take the heat generated in the engine bay, i suggest you get some pipe adapters made for cheap at a muffler shop.
ask me how i know

within a day or two, the pvc got very oily too, not sure if it was from the heat or just oil residue from the engine area, but no matter how hard it tightened it, you could still pull the filters off by hand.
i really don't recommend pvc

Ah I see, what I actually did with the pvc pipes later one was to use high temperature silicone on the inside of the pipes to make sure it doesn't fall off. It's been on ever since, but as far as the oil residue, do you think its from the oil coming back into our intake system? Because our cars are known for blowing oil back into our intercooler and what not.

I replaced mine with AFE intake. I noticed that PVC was a little brittle.

Hmm.. I can't tell you the exact dimensions cause I'm deployed right now and I don't have the box in front of me but I researched it on Amazon and here are the ones that you want.

Props for DIY....
The BMS DCI is simple enough to replicate.

All you guys are hilarious, intakes are a serious thing, get it wrong blow your motor, good luck. 50k car 50 dollar mod = priceless. Let the engineers do the engineering, if your really cheap spend the 100 dollar bill on the BMS intake, or ya know leave the stock fantastic intake alone.
Love how everyone always think stock sucks, it dosen't suck its engineered work in nearly every situation, think about where all these cars are used and all the different variables, its safe design, thats OEM standard. And you should probably remove the word custom from the title, using off the shelf generic parts from a discount auto parts store isn't custom. |

Sorry, had too much red bull.. But yeah no, I agree, we should let the engineers to their job and not be cheap and buy generic brand intake filters because this may cause catastrophic failure to the engine. We really appreciate the input..

Nothing wrong with tinkering with a car, you think my car is stock? I don't put cheap crappy less then OEM quality parts though. Your the guy risking his motor because he is too cheap to spend 50 bucks on quality SB filters.
Whats the point thats like almost a tank of gas. You have no idea what goes into designing a quality intake, way over your head. (And mine) One more thing to look out for when shopping for a used 335i. |

You're very judgemental, sir. "Way over your head" and "too cheap" Your intentions may have not been to harshly criticize someone but man your tone is just uncalled for. I really appreciate constructive criticism but you're not even close. You have no justification backing up your thoughts other than, "get it wrong, blow your motor" or "risking your motor".. Well, how are we risking it? What are some of the changes that are taking into effect that may blow our engine?
I'm sure everyone is open to everyone's thoughts here, that's why we have this forum, but you're here just criticizing people.. You know nothing about me other than what I've said on this website. So please keep your judgement to yourself and give us a more thoughtful input.
