Quaife = Fit and forget complete service free life
Wavetrac = eventual replacement of friction plates

The standard friction plates that come with the differential last the lifetime of the differential. The differential has a lifetime warranty.

From Autotech:
"Autotech is very excited with the positive feedback they have already received from Wavetracs already out in the field for other applications, including a 740+ WHP drag car. Our testing has shown that the Wavetrac works as well as (or better than) a Quaife, and feels slightly more aggressive. The Wave Design Center Pack really does work, and provides traction to the wheel with grip, even if the other wheel is in the air. The Wavetrac is much quieter than a Quaife in situations where the Quaife is noisy, such as hard turns from a stop under power, and we expect the same results with winter driving. The warranty is lifetime, even when raced, and also transferable.

In fact, we are so excited and confident about the new features that we are replacing the Quaifes in all of our cars with the Wavetrac units, since they should perform better in winter driving when one-wheel-on-ice is very common, and it's a (noisy) nuisance when the Quaife goes 'open' in that situation."

If you don't like your LSD to go open, Wavetrac is your choice.

I've had the quaife for almost 2 years with several track sessions under the belt. Never once have I experienced any problem whatsoever with it going "open", even on down slope off-camber turns. How many of you are honestly going wheels off the ground in a turn while accelerating during your HPDE sessions? And you would have to be completely off the ground in order for this to possibly happen. And noise? Never heard it.

If you want good advice call Harold at HP autowerks, they sell both and he has tons of track time in the 335.

Quafe. They've been around for a LONG time and have been proven.

how long is the "lifetime" warranty on the wavertac? Is it 3-4 years? or 10? The "lifetime" of the product will determine the warranty period.

~$2K (non welded ring gear). By far the most tuneable LSDs out there, from silky smooth street to wild drifter. To get the most of of them, you'll want a very good shop to set it up (and if you're a perfectionist, be willing to fine tune it to your needs).

edit: OP since you're in Portland, you might try giving HPF a call if that's the route you want to take. They use the OS Giken on their stage 4 M3s...

I went with the Quaife and still enjoying after 9 months, it really changed the feel of the car for the better with the much improved traction.

isnt "lifetime" as long as you own the product? or the life of the humanoid who bought it (for original purchaser)

Yeah, I think they stick to Kits and big installs/ builds. Plus they are slammed right now; I’d call and ask them who they recommend then.

I'd be interested in who they (HPF) recommend too (if you wouldn't mind posting)

Your VIN can determine what you have in the car.

If you don't mind the drive to WA. Try:

Speedware Motorsports
Automotive Service Center:
9042 Willows RD NE
Redmond, WA 98052
Service Phone: 425-296-5199

They have done installs for us and is on our recommended installers list. Tell them HP Autowerks sent you.

no "lifetime" is not your lifetime. Search it, if the lifetime of the product is 2-3 years, then the warranty is 2-3 years. It's a little bit misleading
