Like the conversation I had with my neighbour, if they really want it then they'll take but relocating the OBD (like I have done) puts them at greater risk of being caught.
As I understand it, there is a small area in the car tha the alarm sensors fail to cover, the theives know this and exploit it, obviously this area is around the OBD port. By relocationg your OBD port to another area that is covered by the sensors the alarms will most definitely sound and therefore raise alert. Should everyone ignore your alarm or shout "SHUT THE F UP" out of their window rather than raise concern you then have the theif scratching his head and wondering where to look for it...does he (she?) really have 30mins to uproot an interior to find it...bit risky for them if you ask me. P.S. I didn't tell my neighbour where I relocated it, in case he was a baddie . Truth be told, if your BMW has been stolen then it's probably being driven by a Bosnian now. |

Totally agree JamJay these guys go for quick quiet getaway, same reason you fit a house alarm unless you in sticks a thief will go after a house with no bell boxes generally than one with since they can take their time and not be caught. Something that proved itself in my area few yeas back. Only houses that got done over and there where few where ones with no bell boxes on the wall

I went with a steering lock on mine. I know its not a fool proof solution and wouldn't hold off a determined theif for long, but I'd imagine most people making off with these cars are after the 15-30 second getaway. I'd imagine having to deal with a steering lock, which would mean getting in the door as well, will put any opportunists off.
Its also a 6 year old car, can't imagine its huge on the desire list!! |

I've heard this rumour too. Might ask my local stealer about it.. although I'm not entirely sure they'd have a clue.

I wouldnt be suprised bit like in old days of the quite recalls that they are working on something
