Lagging internal pipes
Think this thread is for Will (in both senses of the title)
Started on more moneypit winter fixes. Boiler is in garage, and all the hot water and CH pipes are exposed until they go into the house....a total of 36m of pipes in fact (measured this morning). Assume lagging the pipes is worth doing? + is the thinner lagging ok (13mm) as the 25mm stuff is 4x the price. Already having a hard time justify £50 of pipe lagging (i am just full of riveting threads today!)

Go for the best lagging possible - otherwise you are throwing money away every time it's on.
Alternatively, if the pipe runs and space available allow, box the pipe runs in and utterly stuff it with general insulation. |

So, glad its worth doing, but thicker the better:
http://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/DEF/pr...5mm%20x%2013mm at £1.40 per 2m or http://www.tradingdepot.co.uk/DEF/pr...5mm%20x%2025mm at ££5.24 per 2m what's best for lagging over the pipe clips and intersections?

You can get a felt wrap to cover the joints and valves.
I use the company below, normally pretty competitive prices. http://www.bes.co.uk/products/106.asp

Two non-sexual posts from Will in the same thread.

I have no idea about this stuff but are all pipes under the floor boards lagged?
I seem to recall on the odd occasion of getting up floorboards they aren't. So the small bit of pipe between the boiler and the ceiling in the garage isn't going to make much difference if it looses heat as it circulates throughout the entire house. Mine are lagged but there are gaps where the joints are exposes etc. |

I can actually get under most of the the floor , so it may be worth lagging the underfloor pipes...but what a awful job that will be
